Job description

  • Design, maintain, and enhance databases that support facilities operations, asset tracking, and continuity planning.
  • Improve and modernize legacy Microsoft Access tools, including integration with enterprise systems and databases.
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries, data models, and reports to ensure accurate and accessible data across teams.
  • Collaborate with facilities and planning staff to gather requirements and implement practical, user-friendly data solutions.
  • Create and support dashboards and visualizations using Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools.
  • Promote best practices in data management, quality assurance, and documentation.
  • Support the development of data systems that improve organizational preparedness and response planning.

Requirements

Do you have experience in SQL?, VTG is seeking a Senior Data Engineer located in Chantilly, VA. We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to support data-driven decision-making in facilities operations and continuity planning efforts. This role will focus on modernizing and managing key data systems used for tracking assets, maintenance, planning, and operational resilience. The ideal candidate brings strong database expertise-particularly in SQL and Microsoft Access-along with experience working with business intelligence tools such as Tableau and similar platforms., * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.

  • 15+ years of experience in data engineering, database development, or a similar role.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Microsoft Access, including database design and report development.
  • Strong expertise in handling and management of large databases, database development and their structures.
  • Strong experience in working with customers to help identify and develop user requirements to be used for upgrading or enhancing Databases, requirements, structure, and its tools to provide user mission support and planning activities.
  • Experience in relational database supporting and development of tools and templates to provide user friendly inputs and outs to support mission needs.
  • Strong expertise in developing interconnections between relational databases and other external tools to develop automated tools for data ingestions and exports to other tools.
  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills., * Experience integrating legacy Access-based tools with enterprise databases or cloud platforms.
  • Knowledge of facilities management systems or standards (e.g., CMMS tools, FIMS).
  • Understanding of continuity planning frameworks or resilience-focused operations.
  • Familiarity with data governance, security, and performance optimization practices.
  • Experience supporting operational data needs in facilities, infrastructure, or continuity planning environments.
