Senior Payroll & HRIS Specialist

The Senior Payroll & HRIS Specialist supports payroll operations and serves as a primary administrator for the configuration and optimization of UKG. This role is responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing, HRIS data integrity, regulatory compliance, reporting, and continuous improvement across payroll and HR processes. • Lead end-to-end payroll processing for all employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

• Review and validate wages, deductions, bonuses, commissions, taxes, garnishments, and other payroll elements.

• Oversee payroll adjustments related to new hires, salary changes, promotions, leaves, and terminations.

• Reconcile payroll data, general ledger entries, tax filings, and payroll reports; investigate and resolve discrepancies.

HRIS Management

• Serve as the primary administrator and subject-matter expert for UKG, including payroll, timekeeping, employee data, workflows, reporting, security roles, and system configuration.

• Maintain the accuracy, security, and integrity of employee, payroll, enrollment, and employment data within UKG.

• Lead UKG system updates, enhancements, testing, integrations, configurations, and user acceptance activities.

• Troubleshoot UKG functionality and data issues, partner with internal stakeholders and UKG support, and drive issues through resolution.

• Administer and maintain the UKG benefits portal, including plan setup, eligibility rules, enrollment workflows, employee access, and system configuration.

• Lead the technical setup, testing, launch, and closeout of annual open enrollment within UKG, partnering with HR on plan and employee data requirements.

• Manage, monitor, and troubleshoot UKG benefits EDI feeds with insurance carriers and vendors, resolving file errors and validating enrollment data transmission.

Process Improvement

• Develop and implement process improvements, controls, documentation, and automation across payroll and HRIS operations.

• Collaborate with HR, Finance, Operations, IT, and external partners to improve reporting, data quality, compliance, and user experience.

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

• Five or more years of progressive payroll and HRIS experience, including hands-on UKG administration; prior leadership or payroll ownership experience strongly preferred.

• Strong knowledge of payroll practices, payroll tax regulations, wage-and-hour requirements, internal controls, and compliance obligations.

• Demonstrated ability to manage complex payroll cycles, analyze data, resolve discrepancies, and maintain a high level of accuracy.

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience building payroll and HRIS reports, audits, and reconciliations.

• Ability to safeguard confidential information, exercise sound judgment, and maintain strong data governance practices.

• Strong leadership, project management, communication, and cross-functional partnership skills.
