We are looking for a motivated ICT Technical Security Support Engineer to join our ICT Security Team. This is a hands-on support role suited to someone with a grounding in general IT who wants to build practical cyber security experience in a complex operational environment.
You will help protect the Force’s technical infrastructure through proactive and reactive security and compliance monitoring. Working with experienced colleagues, you will respond to enquiries, support security services, maintain accurate records and contribute to the team’s day-to-day work programme.
Responsibilities can include: Receive and respond to customer enquiries, resolving straightforward and escalated queries and referring more complex issues when required. Carry out technical, investigative and administrative activities in support of the ICT Security Team. Help set up, operate, maintain and test ICT security services and systems, including the installation of relevant software where required. Assist with interpreting security data, telemetry, test results and technical findings, presenting information accurately and on time. Create, follow, improve and quality-assure processes and maintain clear electronic records. Identify risks within your area of responsibility, support the identification of controls and work in line with relevant legislation, data protection and MOPI standards. Plan and organise your own work, coordinate with colleagues across ICT and contribute to team objectives., The role sits within the ICT Security Team, reports to an ICT Senior Security Engineer and has no supervisory responsibility. You will liaise with police officers, police staff, external organisations, agencies, partnerships and, where appropriate, members of the public.
Our Information and Communications Technology Department (ICT) has a wide and varied range of responsibilities from 1st line service desk, 2nd line technical support to 3rd line specialist technical architect/design. ICT are also responsible for IT Security Management, Service Management, Business Support and Project Management that maintain and continuously improve critical services, software, platforms, and hardware required throughout the full IT lifecycle. This underpins the delivery of secure and timely 24/7 operations for approximately 10,000 users across 100 geographical locations supporting over 20,000 computers including multiple datacentres together with the underlying network, physical and virtual (including cloud services) IT infrastructure.
Requirements
A good standard of education to at least GCSE grade A-C, including Maths and English, or demonstrable equivalent skills and abilities. A full UK driving licence. Experience of general IT technical support and Microsoft Windows Server. Experience of IT vulnerability management solutions and national or international security standards. An understanding of IT security, with experience in threat management and containment. Good knowledge of Microsoft Windows workstations, Microsoft Windows Server and Microsoft 365. Clear communication, sound judgement, attention to detail and the ability to work constructively with others.
Desirable
An ICT-related or cyber security qualification. Experience using an enterprise Security Information and Event Management platform. Experience of incident response processes and procedures. Welsh language skills at Level 2.
