Job description

Provide administration and application support for mainframe DB2 databases across development, test, and production environments. Responsibilities include database creation, backup and recovery, performance and SQL tuning, security, reorganizations, disaster recovery, production troubleshooting, environment changes, client migrations, documentation, and vendor coordination. The role supports multiple DB2 subsystems and clients, follows ITSM change controls, and participates in 24/7/365 on-call coverage., Provide premium DB2 application DBA support and services to Ensono mainframe clients as they relate to Mainframe DB2 systems. The successful candidate will perform database creation, development, administration and tuning to support our clients’ development, test and production databases. The individual will be responsible for day-to-day database maintenance such as creating backups, performing restores, monitoring file extent growth, scheduling reorganizations, creating and maintaining DR procedures and overall support of client needs and requests. The successful candidate will be called upon to perform a variety of database optimizations that will include general reporting and analysis of the efficiency of the database configuration and periodic review of database performance.

Key Areas of Focus for this Role

  • Expertise and work efforts will focus on the development and support and/or the customization of new services and support efforts.

· Identify, diagnose and deliver solutions to DB2 SQL performance.

  • Maintain operational excellence and production stability thru continuous improvements to both online and batch environments

  • Plan for changes in the databases that result from business growth and project implementation.

· Maintain the databases to meet the Service Levels and other performance standards, to maximize efficiency, and to minimize outages.

· Maintain, update, and implement database archive processes and procedures to recover from an outage or corruption.

· Provide day-to-day database maintenance tasks such as creating backups, performing restores, monitoring file extent growth, and scheduling reorganizations.

· Test and implement database Environment Changes.

· Provide technical advice to application development and production support groups and assist in performance testing and operating system and database performance tuning.

· Develop, document, and maintain logical database standards and procedures.

  • The individual will need to work with vendor personnel to achieve timely solutions of database problems.

  • Fulfill client requests and change orders for mainframe z/OS clients in a timely manner as they pertain to DB2

  • Provide primary support for reported problems related to client application DB2 tablespaces

  • Provide support on 24 x 7 x 365 basis across multiple time zones and participate in on-call responsibilities.

  • Provide key support for client migration services (new client transitions) as they pertain to DB2

  • Assist the assigned project manager in the migration of newly acquired clients such that all technical hurdles are addressed in a timely manner and do not impede the expected progress of the transition nor the targeted migration date.

  • In joint cooperation with the Disaster Recovery Services, successfully execute tasks associated with any given client’s disaster recovery plans.

  • Follow ITSM change control procedures, Operates and maintains unmanned aircraft systems in remote and austere environments. Plans missions, briefs customers, monitors weather and airspace requirements, delivers flight and payload data, analyzes mission results, and completes reports. Performs system testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, inventory control, and customer support while coordinating with subject matter experts. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in DB2 for administration and application support.
  • Extensive experience with the following:

  • Administrating and supporting databases in Mainframe DB2

  • Expert Performance tuning to include reducing MIPs consumption rates

  • Proficient in DB2 control functions

  • Support multiple DB2 subsystems simultaneously

  • Supporting client and internal requests for building all types of DB2 objects.

  • Analyzing new versions of DB2 for functionality that can improve client’s systems

  • Refreshing test data for whole environments

  • Supporting DB2 security requests

  • Review DB2 security to find potential risks

  • Reorganization of application data

  • Vendor consultations for problems and questions

  • Space calculations for new objects and environments

  • Reviewing, tuning of internal DB2 buffer pools and SQL code

  • DR recovery of application objects

  • Troubleshooting and solving production database issues

Other Qualifications

  • Experience with CA, BMC, and IBM tools for DB2
  • Experience establishing policies and procedures pertaining to database management, DR, security, maintenance and utilization preferred
  • Supporting multiple for clients after hours on-call
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Must be able to multi-task and work under short deadlines and in high pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentations)
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this role is $100,000 to $148,000 annually based on a full-time schedule. Please note that placement in the range may vary based on numerous factors including but not limited to skills, experience, internal equity, and business needs. In addition to base salary, other compensation programs, depending on eligibility, include an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, and an equity grant under our Associate Equity Appreciation Program.
