Job description
Our client is seeking a Reliability Engineer to support electric distribution system reliability, protection coordination, and grid modernization initiatives. This position will be responsible for performing advanced power system analyses, developing and maintaining circuit models, conducting coordination studies, and providing technical quality control of engineering deliverables.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with distribution system modeling, protection coordination, Time Current Coordination (TCC) analysis, load flow studies, and engineering QA/QC reviews utilizing tools such as Synergi Electric, CYME, and CYMTCC.
This role requires a highly analytical engineer who can both perform technical studies and review the work of others to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with utility standards and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain electric distribution system models using utility engineering software.
Perform circuit modeling and system analysis utilizing Synergi Electric, CYME, or similar platforms.
Conduct protection coordination studies for distribution feeders and circuits.
Develop and analyze Time Current Coordination (TCC) curves using CYMTCC.
Perform load flow analysis to evaluate feeder loading, voltage performance, and system constraints.
Conduct fault current studies and analyze system performance under normal and contingency conditions.
Evaluate and coordinate protective devices including reclosers, sectionalizers, breakers, fuses, and relays.
Support feeder reconfiguration, voltage optimization, capacity planning, and reliability improvement initiatives.
Analyze system reliability metrics and recommend operational and infrastructure improvements.
Collaborate with distribution planning, operations, engineering, and field personnel.
Prepare technical reports, engineering studies, recommendations, and client deliverables.
Support grid modernization, resiliency, storm hardening, and distribution automation programs.
Perform quality control (QC) reviews of distribution engineering studies, circuit models, coordination studies, load flow analyses, and technical reports.
Review and validate calculations, model inputs, assumptions, TCC curves, and engineering deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with utility standards.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers as needed.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering such as Mechanical, Electrical, Construction etc.
3+ years of electric utility distribution engineering experience.
Experience performing
Distribution Circuit Modeling
Protection Coordination Studies
Time Current Coordination (TCC) Analysis
Load Flow Analysis
Fault Current Analysis, Similar distribution engineering software platforms
Strong understanding of electric distribution system design, protection, and operations.
Knowledge of distribution protective devices including reclosers, sectionalizers, fuses, breakers, and relays.
Experience reviewing and quality checking engineering studies and technical deliverables.
Demonstrated ability to perform QA/QC reviews of circuit models, coordination studies, load flow analyses, and engineering reports.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and technical writing skills.
