Job description

The Lead Systems Integrator is a key contributor in the construction and startup phase of large-scale industrial and commercial building automation systems. This role provides technical support and leadership to plan, schedule, and execute project installation, startup, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and closeout of complex automation systems integration projects across various commercial and technical sectors.

The Lead Systems Integrator will work with design engineers, construction contractors, third-party system integrators, equipment vendors, and client staff to ensure proper operation and acceptance of the automation and software solutions. The Lead Systems Integrator will receive day-to-day direction and coordination from the site superintendent but shall be capable of executing required tasks in a largely independent manner. This role will oversee the installation efforts of electrical subcontractors and manage small teams of systems integrators through system verification processes while communicating and operating in line with organizational goals, values, and departmental objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Startup, Commissioning & Closeout of BAS/Controls Systems

· Lead teams in pre-functional and functional testing of critical control systems using standard PLC and SCADA platforms.

· Execute troubleshooting of control equipment, I/O, instrumentation, and network systems including corrective actions.

· Participate in commissioning efforts with external stakeholders.

· Analyze system operation, work with the project team to demonstrate system operation, and verify consistency with the contracted scope of work.

· Perform QA/QC of controls and integrated systems using standard software tools.

· Provide installation inspections and other closeout duties to ensure customer acceptance.

· Provide markups for shop drawings to document as-built conditions.

Reporting & Communication

· Contribute to project reporting including daily site updates, daily site safety reporting, and progress reports.

· Document and track issues and out-of-scope efforts.

· Communicate regularly with subcontractors, project managers, clients, and commissioning agents on project progress.

Technology, Digital Tools & Efficiency

· Leverage digital and software tools to enhance efficiency, reduce manual effort, and support consistent, high-quality work output.

· Identify opportunities to improve processes and demonstrate a continuous learning mindset, seeking out new technologies, skills, and methods that elevate individual and team performance.

· Adapt to emerging technologies and evolving digital workflows, actively supporting the integration and adoption of innovative tools across the organization.

Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned

Requirements

· Advanced knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems.

· Advanced knowledge of controls wiring, relay logic, and associated sensors and field devices.

· Advanced knowledge of central mechanical plant equipment, components, and sequences of operation.

· Proven experience with startup and troubleshooting of industrial PLC platforms.

· Experience with troubleshooting low-voltage electrical systems.

· Proven experience with startup and troubleshooting of enterprise SCADA platforms.

· Demonstrated experience leading small teams in the testing and troubleshooting of controls systems.

· Skilled at using standard office productivity suites along with exceptional organizational skills for file management.

· Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with close attention to detail.

· Ability to leverage digital technology to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation.

· Ability to work successfully in a remote/field environment through effective communication, organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness, and resourcefulness.

· Ability to interpret engineering construction drawings, shop drawings, manufacturer wiring diagrams, standards documentation, submittals, and product data sheets.

· Ability to follow company and site safety requirements, with the ability to achieve relevant electrical and jobsite safety certifications as required.

· Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports, and correspondence, and communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information).

· Ability to communicate effectively directly with clients and serve as the primary point of client contact when required.

· Ability to work under pressure, meet close deadlines, and effectively plan and delegate the work of others.

· Ability to maintain an organized jobsite and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

· Frequently manipulating, moving, or grasping small parts, devices, or tools.

· Frequently required to remain in a stationary position.

· Frequently moving through office, industrial, and field environments (including exposure to low temperatures, high temperatures, and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind), including tight and confined spaces.

· Frequently ascending and descending stairs and ladders to access equipment.

· On occasion, required to position self under or over equipment.

· On occasion, required to move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

TRAVEL / RELOCATION REQUIREMENTS

· Must reside near the primary project region.

· Opportunities for domestic travel to project sites as workload demands require.

· Must possess valid government-issued identification required for domestic travel associated with this position.

· Travel may involve transportation by car or plane depending on the destination and nature of the business need.

· Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities, including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meetings for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, and attending industry conferences.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, or a related discipline; OR two (2) years of experience with hands-on installation, testing, validation, and troubleshooting of controls infrastructure.

· PLUS a minimum of five (5) years of additional experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation, and troubleshooting of controls infrastructure, ideally in PLC and SCADA implementations.
