Job description

As a Web Designer / Web Design Professional, you will work on the design and development of new websites as well as improving and maintaining existing websites.

You will be involved throughout the website design process, from understanding client requirements and creating layouts and prototypes through to implementation, testing, optimisation and ongoing maintenance.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of responsive web design, user experience and modern website development practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop modern, responsive and user-friendly websites.
  • Create website layouts, page structures, visual designs and user interfaces.
  • Translate client and business requirements into effective website designs.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes and website page layouts.
  • Develop and maintain websites using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Work with WordPress and other content management systems.
  • Customise WordPress themes and plugins where required.
  • Ensure websites are responsive across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
  • Improve website usability, accessibility and overall user experience.
  • Test websites across different browsers, screen sizes and devices.
  • Identify and resolve website design, layout and usability issues.
  • Optimise websites for performance, speed and mobile responsiveness.
  • Apply SEO-friendly website design and technical practices.
  • Work with content, marketing and development teams to deliver website projects.
  • Create and maintain reusable website design components and page templates.
  • Update and maintain existing client websites.
  • Monitor websites and troubleshoot design or front-end issues.
  • Assist with website migrations, updates, backups and ongoing maintenance.
  • Work with hosting platforms and website management tools where required.
  • Maintain awareness of current web design standards, technologies and user experience trends.
  • Communicate with clients and internal team members regarding website requirements and project progress.
  • Maintain accurate documentation relating to website projects and changes.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in web design or website development.
  • Good knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript.
  • Experience designing responsive websites.
  • Experience with WordPress or another CMS platform.
  • Good understanding of website usability and user experience.
  • Understanding of website performance and page-speed optimisation.
  • Understanding of SEO-friendly web design principles.
  • Experience working with website layouts, templates and visual components.
  • Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple website tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as as part of a team.

Desirable Skills

The following would be advantageous:

  • Experience with Figma, Adobe XD or similar design/prototyping tools.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or similar graphic design software.
  • Experience with Elementor or other WordPress page builders.
  • Knowledge of PHP and WordPress theme customisation.
  • Experience with Google Analytics and Google Search Console.
  • Understanding of technical SEO.
  • Experience with website hosting and domain management.
  • Knowledge of Git or other version-control systems.
  • Experience working on websites for UK businesses.
  • Experience working within a digital marketing agency., We are looking for someone who is creative, technically capable and genuinely interested in building high-quality websites.

You should be comfortable taking a website project from an initial requirement through to design, implementation, testing and ongoing improvement.
