MWD Technical Support Specialist - Telemetry

We are seeking an experienced MWD Operations Support Specialist to provide technical support for field operations involving Measurement While Drilling equipment. This position supports ongoing equipment rental and sales activities, assists customers with field-related technical issues, and documents equipment performance and operational data.

The ideal candidate has recent North American land-based MWD experience, including hands-on knowledge of electromagnetic telemetry systems. This is primarily an operations support position rather than a traditional engineering design role.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct technical support to customers operating MWD equipment in the field.
• Assist with troubleshooting equipment performance and operational issues.
• Escalate complex problems to the appropriate technical or engineering teams.
• Document equipment activity, field issues, and resolutions in company business systems.
• Collect, catalog, and organize field performance data.
• Consolidate operational information and prepare regular updates for internal teams.
• Monitor ongoing field activity and communicate relevant trends or recurring issues.
• Serve as a technical point of contact for customers and field personnel.
• Use Excel, Power BI, and other tools to review and report operational data.
• Support equipment rental and sales activities as required.

• Associate degree or another two-year technical degree.
• Three to five years of direct field experience with an MWD or directional drilling service company.
• Recent MWD experience gained within the last three to five years.
• Hands-on experience with electromagnetic telemetry systems.
• North American land-based drilling experience.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to document technical information accurately.
• Strong customer communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively with field personnel, customers, and technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with SLB or Extreme Engineering equipment.
• Experience with XEM or xBolt systems.
• Knowledge of additional MWD systems and technologies.
• Familiarity with rotary steerable systems.
• Experience using Power BI or similar data-analysis tools.
• Previous experience providing remote or office-based technical support to field operations.

$35 - $45 an hour - Full-time, Contract
