Job description

  • Build and enhance cloudnative microservices using Java (Spring Boot) and Kotlin as the team’s primary languages.
  • Contribute to Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) patterns leveraging Node.js/Next.js where applicable to support UI and mobile integration.
  • Apply API-first and contract-first design principles using OpenAPI/Swagger and, where applicable, gRPC.
  • Develop highly available, scalable systems that support millions of transactions across ordering, checkout, pricing, menu, and customer account domains.
  • Implement resiliency patterns including retries, circuit breakers, rate limiting, and idempotency for the Async Order Flow (AOF).

Cloud, Platform & Deployment

  • Build and deploy services on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), working within GS standards for CI/CD using Harness and infrastructure templates via Terraform/Helm.
  • Support two key delivery tracks:
  • Refactoring: Migrating existing services from legacy GKE/ASM into the new GKE Enterprise (GKEE) environment.
  • Greenfield: Building new GKE-native services for strangler-pattern extraction of the POBS/OLODB monolith.

Requirements

  • Expert-level experience in Java and the broader Java/Spring ecosystem; ability to rapidly learn and work in Kotlin.
  • Strong polyglot mindset with exposure to Node.js/Next.js for BFF development.
  • Hands-on Kubernetes experience-GKE preferred, but deep K8s expertise in EKS/AKS/OpenShift accepted for Senior roles as long as the candidate can adapt to GS’s Harness + Terraform/Helm delivery patterns.
  • Strong experience building API-first, contract-driven microservices at scale.
  • Experience with event-driven systems and messaging platforms (Pub/Sub, SNS/SQS, Kafka, etc.).
  • Hands-on work with cloud-native databases (Firestore/Firebase, Spanner, Cloud SQL-or AWS/DynamoDB equivalents).
  • Experience in CI/CD pipelines, containerization, service observability, and performance tuning., * Experience with strangler-pattern migrations or domain decomposition work.
  • Background supporting high-volume transactional or ecommerce systems.
  • Familiarity with Vertex AI or enterprise GenAI integration is a plus (not required).
