- Enterprise Leadership: The department oversees essential countywide functions including budgeting and performance management, accounting, treasury, procurement and contracting, risk management, fleet and general services, and information technology. - Information Technology: The Information Technology Division delivers secure, reliable, and innovative technology services that power County operations. IT supports more than 3,500 employees and external partners, managing over 1,000 systems while advancing cybersecurity, data protection, modernization, and effective solutions to meet evolving needs.

We lead with safety, empowerment, and collaboration, creating an environment where people can contribute, challenge ideas, continuously improve, and work together to solve complex problems and strengthen public trust., President’s Day - Third Monday in February Memorial Day - Last Monday in May Juneteenth - June 19 Independence Day - July 4 Labor Day - First Monday in September Veteran’s Day - November 11 Thanksgiving Day - Fourth Thursday in November & Friday after Christmas Day - December 25 Personal Holidays: Regular full-time and regular part-time employees, and employees occupying limited duration positions, shall also receive two additional paid personal holidays. Paid personal holidays shall only accrue for those employees on County payroll as of January 1 of each year or the first work day following January 1 and must be taken during the calendar year in which it was accrued. Furlough: Some Pierce County employees may be designated to receive 10 “furlough” days per year in lieu of holidays. Furlough days are available for use on January 1 and must be scheduled and taken within the calendar year. Employees who leave employment with Pierce County must reimburse the employer for used furlough days based upon the number of remaining holidays. Sick Leave: Sick leave accrues on a bi-weekly basis, at the rate of one day per month. Insurance Benefits: Employees and families are covered by medical (including vision), dental and basic life insurance. There are multiple medical plans with very affordable monthly premiums that offer coverage throughout Pierce County. Employees are eligible to enroll each year in a flexible spending plan, which enables them to use tax-deferred dollars toward their health care and dependent care expenses. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in supplemental life and long term disability insurance plans. Retirement and Deferred Compensation: Pierce County employees are members of the State of Washington’s Department of Retirement System (DRS) and depending on the position or previous DRS enrollment will be able to enroll in one of many programs DRS offers. This is a supplemental retirement savings program that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options. Social Security: All Pierce County employees are covered by the federal Social Security and Medicare systems. The county and the employee pay an equal amount into the system. ORCA Passport Program Pierce County employees may participate in the County’s ORCA (One Regional Card for All) Passport program. Your Pierce County issued ORCA card is loaded with an annual Passport pass. The pass automatically renews every year. Requirements
- Deep knowledge of cybersecurity strategy, governance, and risk management, including security architecture, hybrid cloud environments, incident response, cyber resilience, privacy, compliance, and third-party technology risk including SaaS and IaaS in complex organizations.
- Proven ability to develop and lead an enterprise-wide cybersecurity program, including security strategy, policies, governance, multi-year roadmaps, and high-performing teams.
- Strong understanding of AI and emerging technology risk, with the ability to guide secure adoption of AI, automation, autonomous systems, agents, citizen development, quantum computing, and other emerging technologies while balancing innovation and risk.
- Exceptional communication and partnership skills, with the ability to translate complex security risks into clear business terms, advise executives, build trust across departments, engage technical experts and vendors, and challenge decisions when necessary., * Additional education or experience, which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of this position, may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, cybersecurity, or a closely related field; and seven years of progressively responsible information security experience.
- Three years in a management, supervisory, or security program leadership capacity.
- A resume and a cover letter is required for consideration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience serving as a Chief Information Security Officer, deputy CISO, or equivalent senior information security leader for a public-sector organization.
- Experience establishing or maturing an enterprise information security program using the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and CIS Critical Security Controls.
- Experience with government regulatory and compliance environments such as CJIS, HIPAA, IRS Publication 1075, and PCI DSS. Experience designing and implementing cloud security architecture and leading the secure migration of on-premises infrastructure to public cloud environments, with Zero Trust and modern security operations, including SIEM, vulnerability management, and incident response.
- Experience establishing governance for the secure use of artificial intelligence, including AI risk assessment and security review of AI-enabled systems and services.
- Experience supervising technical staff, including in represented (union) environments. Professional security certification (e.g., CISSP, CISM) or equivalent demonstrated experience leading an enterprise information security program.
