Job description

Distinguishing Features of the Class: This work involves responsibility for planning and coordinating the design, installation and maintenance of a district-wide computer network system and peripheral equipment. While this position does not have programming responsibility, the incumbent is responsible for assisting in maintaining existing computer systems and applications software and evaluates network system security measures. The work is performed under direct supervision with leeway allowed for the use of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. The position exercises direct supervision over subordinate Network System Engineers. The incumbent does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities:

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates network design, analysis, capacity planning, installation, monitoring and maintenance, including hardware, peripheral equipment and software applications;
  • Verifies, updates, and evaluates system security measures;
  • Supervises subordinate Network System Engineers;
  • Documents the current systems or processes including maintenance of logs on work orders, equipment repairs and inventory;
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of new trends and technology for computer hardware, software and networking;
  • Analyzes existing systems and make recommendations for updating systems in terms of new computer hardware and software;
  • Participates in meetings with district administration, users, vendors and other IT staff to further district goals;
  • Organizes and conducts formal and informal training sessions and workshops for appropriate personnel to assist them in the utilization of data processing equipment and software;
  • Develops specifications and recommendations for the purchase of new hardware, software, and maintenance agreements;
  • Develops annual technology budget for equipment, supplies, and service agreements;
  • Reviews compliance with legal mandates and operational requirements and advises the District accordingly;
  • Serves on the district-wide technology committee

Requirements

We are seeking a knowledgeable and innovative Coordinator of Computer Technology to lead the Taconic Hills Technology Department. This position oversees the planning, implementation, maintenance, and security of the District’s technology infrastructure, while also providing technical support to staff and students. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a K-12 educational environment, possess strong leadership and problem-solving skills, demonstrate expertise in managing complex technology systems, and be committed to technology that enhances teaching, learning, and operational efficiency., * Good knowledge of the use and operation of computers and related peripheral equipment and instructional computer technology software;

  • Good knowledge of computer systems, analysis, specifications, design, installations and trouble-shooting;
  • Good knowledge of LAN and WAN network systems;
  • Good knowledge of school districts needs for technology training services;
  • Good knowledge of state-of-the-art computer systems, data communications, office automation technology and ability to remain up to date on advances in the industry;
  • Ability to install, maintain and troubleshoot computer software and equipment;
  • Ability to supervise the work of others;
  • Ability to coordinate workshops and speak effectively before groups on instructional technology;
  • Ability to develop, design and conduct computer technology training;
  • Ability to prepare and administer a budget;
  • Ability to deal effectively with professional and technical staff;
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and EITHER:

A) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or a closely related field and one year of work experience involving responsibility for the maintenance, configuration, or installation of mainframe and/or micro-computer hardware and software in LAN and WAN based environments; OR

B) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees, with an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or a closely related field and three years of work experience involving responsibility for the maintenance, configuration, or installation of mainframe and/or micro-computer hardware and software in LAN and WAN based environments; OR

C) Five years of work experience involving responsibility for the maintenance, configuration, or installation of mainframe and/or micro-computer hardware and software in LAN and WAN based environments; OR

D) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above
