Job description

This position shall create and maintain GIS maps for Montana Opticom. The GIS Technician shall provide necessary data, drawings, and assistance to aid in the planning, design, analysis, installation, and maintenance of Montana Opticom’s fiber optic distribution system. The GIS Technician shall be responsible for the creation/maintenance of all locations and related connection records in the network.

  • Designs and maintains detailed system maps, supporting records and the applications that make up the GIS system.
  • Assists in the maintenance of Opticom’s GIS system by obtaining, updating, and implementing all information pertaining to the fiber optic system that is provided by the various teams through staking sheets, ā€œas builtsā€ and various other reports.
  • Assists in the maintenance of Opticom’s GIS by obtaining, updating, and implementing all information pertaining to permitting, transportation and land-use such as roadways, waterways, and state, county, township, city, and individual property boundaries.
  • Assists in the maintenance of Opticom’s GIS system by obtaining and integrating pertinent customer and equipment information in the iVue system.
  • Assists in the preparation of system planning and operational studies (such as construction work plans, long range plans, and sectionalizing studies) by providing Management with an updated Fiber Optic distribution system model to be used in performing engineering analysis.
  • Provides necessary GIS data, drawings, and assistance required by Sales, Construction and Installation teams to aid in the planning, design, analysis, installation, and maintenance of the fiber optic distribution system.
  • Recommends efficiencies for the networking, usability, and operation of GIS technology and related hardware and software.
  • Attend weekly Joint Trench meetings. Support construction department by providing mapping resources and scheduling for open trench crews.
  • Keeps informed on Opticom’s policies, plans, programs, and rates. Attends safety meetings, training, and other employee meetings as required.
  • Efficiently uses Windows based software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driver’s License license?, Do you have experience in Windows?, * Two-year technical degree in GIS, Electrical Technology or related field required. Work experience will be considered in lieu of education

  • Additional electrical, gas, and/or telco utility and/or GIS experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required
