Job description

You are first and foremost a product engineer. You will design, build, and ship the Flox platform - CLI tools, backend services, and infrastructure that enterprises use to manage software environments securely and reproducibly. You own features end-to-end: from design through production. The expectation is high-quality engineering with a focus on correctness, performance, and developer experience. What makes this role different is how you work. You are expected to use agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) as your default development workflow. You’ve likely built harnesses, automation scripts, custom skills, or evaluation frameworks, and you understand how AI agents behave in real engineering environments. You ship faster because of AI - and you help others do the same by building shared workflows and tooling that make AI usage reliable at scale. Tech lead experience is a bonus, but this is fundamentally a hands-on engineering role. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Design, build, and ship features for the Flox platform across CLI tools, backend services, and infrastructure (Rust, Python, TypeScript) Own quality and reliability: testing, code review, and architectural decisions balancing speed and long-term stability Use agentic coding tools as your default workflow, especially for complex or ambiguous engineering problems Build and maintain AI development infrastructure (harnesses, CLAUDE.md/context systems, skills, rules, evaluation frameworks, feedback loops) Evaluate new agentic tooling and practices - run experiments, measure outcomes, and recommend adoption Help standardise AI-assisted workflows across the team through documentation and shared systems Make judgement calls on when AI accelerates engineering vs when it introduces risk or false confidence

Requirements

5+ years software engineering experience shipping production systems Strong experience in Rust, Python, and/or TypeScript (at least one strongly, exposure to others preferred) Daily use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) as part of real workflows Experience building AI development infrastructure beyond personal experimentation Strong engineering fundamentals (architecture, system design, code quality at speed) Ability to clearly communicate workflows and technical decisions STRONG SIGNALS Devtools, CLI, or infrastructure engineering background Experience with Nix / NixOS / reproducible build systems Tech lead experience or ownership of delivery in past roles Background in software supply chain, package management, or build systems Contributions to open-source AI tooling, agents, or developer frameworks
