Job description
- Designs, builds, validates, and maintains statistical and predictive models (e.g., length-of-stay estimation, census forecasting, utilization and staffing patterns, patient/family satisfaction drivers, and other clinical or operational outcomes) to support organizational planning and decision-making.
- Analyzes patient census, referral patterns, level-of-care utilization, and staffing data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Partners with clinical leadership, quality improvement, and compliance teams to translate data into actionable insights that improve patient care and staff workload management.
- Develops and maintains dashboards and reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or similar) for internal stakeholders and the Board of Directors.
- Supports regulatory and quality reporting requirements, including CMS Hospice Quality Reporting Program (HQRP) measures, CAHPS Hospice Survey data, and other compliance-related analytics.
- Collaborates with technology, analytics, and operational teams to translate validated models and analytical insights into scalable decision-support tools, applications, and data products for internal and external use.
- Ensures rigorous data governance, privacy, and security practices in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policy.
- Conducts statistical analyses to evaluate program effectiveness, grant outcomes, and community impact for funders and donors.
- Collaborates with IT/EHR teams to improve data quality, integrity, and integration across clinical and administrative systems.
- Presents findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including clinicians, executives, and board members.
- Respects and maintains appropriate confidentiality of all information that may be accessible through information technology systems.
- Actively participates in internal and external education, training, in-services, and other activities to promote personal and professional growth.
- Adjusts to changes in workload and schedules based on changing departmental and organizational priorities.[DEL: :DEL]

- Adheres to the NorthStar standards to care for every person, every time, 100% of the time., This position is responsible for the analysis, modeling, and reporting of clinical, operational, financial, and administrative data to support patient care, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and organizational decision-making across the organization. Core functions include developing statistical and predictive models related to patient census, length of stay, utilization, staffing, and other organizational needs; maintaining dashboards and reporting tools for clinical and executive leadership; and supporting CMS Hospice Quality Reporting Program (HQRP) submissions and other regulatory requirements. The role serves as a liaison between the analytics function and clinical/operational teams, translating data findings into actionable recommendations for care delivery, staffing, and program planning. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Public Health, Biostatistics, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Three (3) or more years of experience in data analysis, statistics, or data science, ideally in healthcare, nonprofit, or social services settings.
- Proficiency in a statistical/programming language such as Python or R required.
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases required.
- Experience building dashboards/data visualizations (Tableau, Power BI, or similar).
- Familiarity with healthcare data standards and regulatory frameworks (HIPAA required; CMS hospice reporting a plus) required.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analyses into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Experience with EHR systems commonly used in hospice/palliative care (e.g., MatrixCare, Homecare Homebase, WellSky) preferred.
- Knowledge of survival analysis, time-to-event modeling, or other relevant statistical methods preferred.
- Experience supporting grant reporting or outcomes measurement in a nonprofit environment preferred.
- Familiarity with CMS Hospice Quality Reporting Program (HQRP), HOPE assessment data, CAHPS Hospice Survey data, and related hospice quality measures preferred.
- May occasionally be required to perform work outside of normal business hours based on project, operational, or organizational needs.
- The physical and sensory demands of the position include vision, effective speech, and hearing for extensive telephone contact; repetitive motion; driving or riding in a motor vehicle; standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, and stretching; and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted.
- Maintains access to reliable personal transportation for intrastate travel as needed.
