Job description

Kforce has a client that is seeking an Operations Systems Engineer I in Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid). About the Opportunity: We are seeking an OPS Systems Engineer I to support the stability, performance, and reliability of enterprise Linux, AIX, and DB2 environments. This role focuses on supporting critical business applications while working closely with senior engineers in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in systems administration, enjoys troubleshooting technical issues, and is eager to learn and grow within enterprise operations. Responsibilities: System Monitoring & Maintenance:

  • Perform routine health checks and maintenance activities across Linux and AIX environments
  • Monitor DB2 databases to support system availability and performance
  • Assist with troubleshooting and incident response efforts, helping identify root causes and resolve operational issues
  • Support overall system reliability through proactive monitoring and maintenance

Upgrades & Patching:

  • Participate in operating system and software patching initiatives
  • Apply security updates and system enhancements in accordance with organizational standards
  • Assist with upgrade planning, execution, validation, and documentation activities
  • Support post-upgrade testing and verification processes

Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity:

  • Participate in disaster recovery testing and business continuity exercises
  • Maintain and update disaster recovery documentation and procedures
  • Support efforts to ensure operational readiness and resilience

Automation & Documentation:

  • Utilize automation tools and scripting to improve operational efficiency and reliability
  • Document system configurations, support procedures, and troubleshooting activities
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and operational best practices
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, operations, and technical teams to support enterprise systems

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Foundational knowledge of Linux system administration
  • Understanding of operating systems, server infrastructure, and system monitoring concepts
  • Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and learn new technologies quickly

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with scripting or automation tools is a plus
  • Exposure to AIX and/or DB2 environments
  • Experience supporting enterprise applications in a production environment
  • Familiarity with system patching, upgrades, and disaster recovery processes
  • Understanding of automation and operational support best practices

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
