Job description
Department of Labor’s (DOL’s) UISIm (Unemployment Insurance Service Improvement) project. The position is in support (operational, enhancements, debugging) of the UISIm project, a multi- year program effort to redesign, implement, and test business process improvements for the Department of Labor’s customers, partners and internal staff. UISIm replaces the 40+ year old Unemployment Insurance (UI) legacy computer systems and manual procedures with a new and improved integrated computer system.
— Day-to-Day Tasks —

Design, develop, and maintain cloud-based systems, ensuring efficient data storage and adherence to security policies.

Building and deploying cloud-native applications using cloud services like cloud build, cloud deploy.
- Build and manage the Google Cloud Platform foundation platform to enable application deployments

Engineer solutions on Google Cloud Platform foundation platform using Infrastructure As Code methods using Terraform

Integrate, configure, deploy and manage centrally provided common cloud services (e.g. IAM, networking, logging, Operating systems, Containers.)
- Consume centrally agreed base Hardened OS (Linux and Windows)
- Configure backup of VMs and CloudSQL and restore.
- Ensure compliance with centrally defined Security

Ensure compliancy with Operational risk standards (E.g. Network, Firewall, OS, Logging, Monitoring, Availability, Resiliency)

Build and support continuous integration (CI), continuous delivery (CD) and continuous testing activities
- Engineering activities to implement patches provided centrally
- Update support and operational documentation as required
- Ensure good Change management practice is implemented as specified by central standards.
- Mentor state staff developers in cloud technologies.
- Create and review infrastructure/DevOps architecture diagrams.
- Analyzing cloud usage and optimizing resource allocation to control cloud expenses.

Monitoring cloud systems for performance issues, identifying potential problems, and troubleshooting technical incidents.
- Diagnose technical issues, analyze logs, and effectively troubleshoot complex cloud problems.
- Working closely with development teams, system administrators, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into cloud solutions.
Requirements
36 Months of experience using CI/CD pipeline technologies 36 Months of experience using GitHub repository 24 Months of experience using Prisma Cloud, Tenable, OS Patching/upgrading 84 months of experience designing, developing, deploying, monitoring, and maintaining cloud-based systems in Google Cloud Platform in accordance with security, performance, availability, and cost-management requirements, including cloud-native application deployment, resource optimization, system monitoring, log analysis, incident diagnosis and troubleshooting, and use of Google Cloud Platform Cloud Build and Cloud Deploy. 84 months of experience implementing, automating, and administering Google Cloud Platform cloud infrastructure, including Infrastructure as Code using Terraform; automation using Python or PowerShell; GKE cluster, pod, and service administration; Linux and Windows server administration; and configuration and administration of Google Cloud Platform services including Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, VPC/XPN, Cloud SQL, Redis, Secret Manager, CDN, load balancing, Cloud Armor, Logging, Monitoring, Alerting, and Pub/Sub.
