Job description

As our Senior Business Intelligence Analyst you will be a hands-on, individual-contributor role within Avalara’s Global Analytics and Insights organization. While your primary focus will be on Marketing, connecting marketing activity to downstream outcomes like pipeline, revenue, and retention. You must also have ability to pivot into other areas of the business, pick up unfamiliar problems quickly, and turn data into clear answers wherever they’re needed. You will help create a more reliable pipeline forecast, develop a clearer understanding of demand generation and the customer journey, and influence marketing strategy and investment decisions through data-driven insights. You will support ongoing decision-making and reduce manual effort across the organization by delivering AI-driven solutions. This is a remote position within the United States. We do not provide sponsorship for this position.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Connect top-of-funnel activities to downstream outcomes, including pipeline creation, bookings, and ARR across customers
  • Partner across Marketing, Sales, Finance, Product, and Operations to build a shared, defensible view of results
  • Build modeled datasets, dashboards, and monitoring frameworks for important performance metrics
  • Troubleshoot data quality issues and ensure new processes and changes are reflected correctly in the data, embedding yourself in the marketing and sales motions to understand how the business operates
  • Analyze performance and trends, surfacing shifts, quantifying ROI, and recommending ways to improve spend and conversion
  • Flex across subject areas as our priorities shift and communicate findings to a range of audiences, including leadership
  • Use AI tools, such as Glean and Claude, to speed up reporting.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or a related data-focused role
  • You have marketing analytics experience, paired with the ability to pivot across different subject areas and quickly adapt to unfamiliar problems
  • Experience with funnel metrics, conversion rates, NRR/GRR, the marketing-to-sales handoff, customer journey analysis, and attribution methodologies
  • Advanced SQL skills, with experience in data modeling and validation, and proficiency in dbt and Git
  • Proficiency with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms
  • You have practical experience or readiness to use AI tools (e.g., Glean, Claude) to accelerate analytical workflows

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the state listed. The successful candidate’s actual salary/wage may be based on various factors, such as geographic location, candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, depending on the terms of the applicable plan and the employee’s role.
