Job description

ZipStaff is seeking a Senior Python Software Engineer to join a high-impact financial forecasting and accounting platform team at a major financial institution.

You will work on the Checkmate platform (the modern replacement for a legacy system), focusing on refactoring existing components, building new custom features, and performing heavy integration and testing work. This role requires strong production-grade Python engineering skills and the ability to deliver clean, well-tested, object-oriented code.

What You’ll Do

  • Refactor and modernize existing components of a financial forecasting and accounting application
  • Design and develop new custom components and integrate them into the Checkmate platform
  • Perform heavy integration work across data, services, and application layers
  • Write clean, maintainable, production-grade Python code using solid Object-Oriented Programming principles
  • Develop and maintain strong automated unit and integration tests (pytest or equivalent)
  • Support critical production runs, troubleshoot issues, and ensure accuracy and reliability of outputs
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and team members to analyze requirements and deliver end-to-end solutions
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and continuous improvement of engineering practices

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on production-grade Python software engineering experience (scripting or automation-only backgrounds will not be considered)
  • Strong Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) skills in Python
  • Solid experience with unit testing and automated test frameworks (pytest strongly preferred)
  • Experience with Git in a team-based development environment
  • Strong SQL and relational database skills
  • Ability to write clean, testable, high-quality code and work in an Agile environment
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work on-site in Tysons, VA, * Experience with Pandas
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Exposure to financial forecasting, fixed income concepts, or accounting systems
  • Experience supporting production systems with high accuracy and reliability requirements

Interview Process

  • Candidates must demonstrate strong live coding and technical depth during the on-site interview

  • Do you have strong Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) experience in Python along with unit testing using frameworks such as pytest?
