Job description

We are looking for mid-senior Software Engineers with experience in Golang, Java or Python to join a rapidly growing engineering team in Farnborough. You will help design and deliver secure digital solutions that support Defence and National Security missions, working on complex technical challenges where reliability, security and operational impact matter. Permanent role, salary up to £75,000 plus benefits with flexible, hybrid working from Farnborough.

About the role

You will join a multidisciplinary team of software engineers, architects, platform specialists, infrastructure engineers and delivery professionals.

The role covers the full software development lifecycle, from technical design and development through to testing, deployment and continuous improvement. Golang is of particular interest, although strong engineers with experience in Java, C#, C++, Rust or Python will also be considered where they can confidently discuss the differences between technologies and how systems written in different languages integrate.

This is a customer-facing position, so you should be comfortable working directly with stakeholders as well as contributing technically.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain secure, scalable software solutions
  • Build backend services using Go, Java, Python or other relevant languages
  • Develop responsive user interfaces using JavaScript, TypeScript and React
  • Implement cloud services across AWS or Azure
  • Use Git to support effective version control and collaborative development
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated testing processes
  • Use Docker to create consistent and reliable deployment environments
  • Write clean, efficient and well-documented code whilst participating in code reviews
  • Mentor and support other engineers where appropriate, providing constructive technical feedback
  • Keep up to date with emerging software engineering tools and practices

Requirements

  • Strong professional software engineering experience (5 years+)
  • Proficiency in Go, Java, C#, C++, Rust, Python or a comparable language
  • Good understanding of the full software development lifecycle
  • Experience with Docker for containerisation and deployment.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD and modern software delivery practices
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, algorithms and data structures, * Commercial Golang experience
  • Experience building or deploying solutions in AWS or Azure
  • JavaScript, TypeScript and React
  • Automated testing frameworks
  • Agile and DevSecOps delivery
  • Web security principles and secure coding practices
  • Experience in Defence, National Security or another secure environment
