Job description

University Housing and Dining at The University of Texas at Austin is looking for a Data Analyst with strong dashboard development skills to join our growing Data and Assessment team. We are in the early stages of building our analytics infrastructure, and this is an exciting opportunity to contribute from the ground up.

In this role you will focus primarily on building and maintaining high-quality interactive dashboards and reports in Power BI. This position supports multiple units within University Housing and Dining and partners with departments across the Operational Services and Strategies portfolio to deliver reporting, dashboards, and analytics that support operational and strategic decision-making. You will work under the direction of the Senior Data Analyst to deliver reporting and analytics solutions that support decision making across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with multiple units within University Housing and Dining and departments across the Operational Services and Strategies portfolio to understand business needs, gather reporting requirements, and deliver reporting and analytics solutions that support operational and strategic decision-making. Support unit leaders and staff through education, training, and sharing of relevant information and resources as needed.

  • Build and maintain high quality interactive dashboards and reports in Power BI/Tableau. Develop and maintain semantic data models that support accurate, scalable, and efficient reporting. Design visually compelling and insightful data visualizations that align with stakeholder needs and support data-informed decision making.

  • Prepare, clean and transform data from various systems for reporting and analytical purposes. Apply best practices for data management, including collecting, merging, validating, and documenting datasets to ensure reliability and consistency. Support data standardization and contribute to process improvement efforts that enhance data quality and usability across the organization. Document data workflows and maintain data files as directed.

  • Support the development, calculation, and ongoing refinement of key performance indicators in collaboration with stakeholders, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and priorities.

  • Respond to ad hoc reporting and data requests from departmental stakeholders. Support automation of routine data processes, reduce manual effort, and minimize the risk of errors in recurring data workflows.

  • Assist with survey design, data collection processes, and assessment efforts by recommending tools and methodologies that support meaningful analysis and actionable insights.

  • Attend staff meetings and department meetings. Serve on committees as needed. Perform related duties as required., The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length., Employees may be required to report violations of law under Title IX and the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). If this position is identified a Campus Security Authority (Clery Act), you will be notified and provided resources for reporting. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Field related to the work to be performed

  • Experience in Data analysis/reporting or related

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI/Tableau, including data modeling, DAX, and/or report design

  • Proficiency in SQL and working knowledge of Python and/or R for data analysis

  • Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and/or data transformation

  • Experience with survey platforms such as Qualtrics or Microsoft Forms and supporting assessment or reporting processes

  • Experience in higher education or an operational support environment
