Job description

We are looking for a Product Specialist to support a complex Pathology Partnership Programme. This is a technical coordination role rather than a project management position, requiring someone who is comfortable working alongside technical teams, maintaining programme documentation, and ensuring the Programme Lead remains informed of progress and risks.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Programme Lead during the initial phase, with the expectation that a dedicated Project Manager will eventually take over some responsibilities., * Support delivery of the Pathology Partnership Programme.

  • Maintain and manage technical project documentation.
  • Attend technical design and delivery meetings, capturing actions, decisions, dependencies, and risks.
  • Provide regular updates to the Programme Lead on progress, issues, and key decisions.
  • Work collaboratively with technical teams, suppliers, and clinical stakeholders.
  • Support coordination across multiple interdependent workstreams.

Programme Context The programme includes several significant technical initiatives, including:

  • Upgrade from WinPath 5 to WinPath Enterprise.
  • ICE (Order Communications) upgrade and reconfiguration.
  • Integration and dependencies with HSL’s HiLIS/Lab system.
  • Management of multiple technical and operational interdependencies across pathology systems and the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) environment.

The role is not responsible for project management or governance but will provide essential technical and programme support by ensuring documentation is accurate, actions are tracked, and technical discussions are effectively captured.

  • Programme Lead.
  • EPR Team (predominantly site-based).
  • Technical implementation teams.
  • Pathology and laboratory system suppliers.
  • Clinical and operational stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Experienced SME supporting healthcare IT or pathology system programmes.
  • Good understanding of technical documentation and system implementations.
  • Able to participate confidently in technical meetings and understand complex discussions.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Comfortable managing multiple dependencies and keeping senior stakeholders informed.
  • Knowledge of pathology systems such as WinPath, ICE (Order Communications), and laboratory information systems would be desirable (though this isn’t pre-requisite), * Do you have good technical experience working in either Healthcare IT systems or Pathology IT systems sufficient to perform this role?

This is working for the East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust

The role is mostly remote working (on average 4 days per week working from home / 1 day per week on site at Lister Hospital)

For the right candidate, fully remote working may be considered, with attendance required for key workshops, technical meetings, and stakeholder sessions as needed.
