The Senior Technical Consultant, Azure Local & Hyper-V, leads the design, implementation, migration, and support of modern compute and virtualization solutions for AHEAD clients.

This role serves as a senior technical lead across client engagements, translating business and technical requirements into secure, scalable, and supportable infrastructure. The consultant leads discovery and design workshops, develops technical deliverables, performs hands-on implementation and troubleshooting, and guides client and internal teams through successful project delivery.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience with Microsoft Azure Local, Hyper-V, Windows Server, hyperconverged infrastructure, and enterprise data center environments, along with strong consulting, communication, and leadership skills. What You Will Do:

• Lead client discovery, assessment, planning, architecture, and design workshops.
• Design, deploy, upgrade, migrate, and optimize Azure Local and Hyper-V environments.
• Develop Azure Local solutions using Azure Arc, Storage Spaces Direct, Network ATC, Failover Clustering, Windows Admin Center, and related platform services.
• Design and implement Hyper-V failover clusters, including Cluster Shared Volumes, live migration, high availability, virtual networking, and workload placement.
• Plan and execute Azure Local cluster deployments, including hardware readiness, operating system configuration, Azure registration, Arc enablement, cluster validation, and operational handoff.
• Assess site readiness across compute, storage, networking, power, cabling, access, Active Directory, DNS, and Group Policy requirements.
• Lead virtual machine migration and modernization projects, including migrations from VMware and legacy virtualization platforms to Hyper-V or Azure Local.
• Use tools such as Azure Migrate, PowerShell, Windows Admin Center, and native Microsoft platform utilities to support migrations and lifecycle operations.
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across Azure Local, Hyper-V, Windows Server, networking, storage, firmware, and hardware.
• Create high-level and low-level designs, implementation plans, build guides, test plans, migration procedures, runbooks, risk registers, and as-built documentation.
• Collaborate with networking, storage, security, cloud, data protection, automation, project management, and vendor teams.
• Communicate technical decisions, risks, dependencies, issues, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Support technical scoping, estimates, statements of work, proposals, and change requests.
• Provide knowledge transfer and operational guidance to client and AHEAD team members.
• Assist other team members with career development, mentoring, and skills growth across Azure Local, Hyper-V, and related technologies.
• Contribute to repeatable delivery methods, automation, reference architectures, and technical best practices.
• Follow AHEAD delivery methods, quality standards, security practices, and project governance requirements., * Delivering technically sound Azure Local and Hyper-V solutions that meet client requirements and AHEAD quality standards.
• Completing implementation and migration activities on schedule with proactive communication of risks, dependencies, and changes.
• Producing accurate, usable documentation and effective knowledge transfer.
• Building trusted relationships with clients, project teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
• Driving issues to resolution and maintaining ownership through project completion.
• Contributing to repeatable methods, automation, reference designs, and technical best practices.
• Mentoring teammates and expanding AHEAD’s Azure Local and Hyper-V delivery capabilities.

• Five or more years of experience designing, implementing, or supporting enterprise compute and virtualization environments.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with Microsoft Hyper-V and Windows Server.
• Experience designing, deploying, and troubleshooting Hyper-V failover clusters, Cluster Shared Volumes, live migration, virtual networking, and high-availability workloads.
• Hands-on experience with Azure Local or Azure Stack HCI, including Azure Arc registration, Storage Spaces Direct, Network ATC, cluster validation, and lifecycle operations.
• Experience with Windows Server administration, Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, Windows Failover Clustering, and PowerShell.
• Experience with server hardware, firmware, host configuration, capacity planning, performance analysis, and operational support.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues methodically and drive them to resolution.
• Experience creating technical documentation and communicating implementation details to clients and delivery teams.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction through clear communication, relationship building, expectation management, and professional follow-through.
• Ability to independently lead technical workstreams while collaborating effectively with project managers, architects, engineers, vendors, and client stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel to client sites as required by engagements., * Experience leading multi-site Azure Local deployments or data center modernization initiatives.
• Experience with VMware vSphere, vCenter, vSAN, VMware Cloud Foundation, or related technologies is a plus.
• Experience migrating workloads from VMware, Hyper-V, or legacy platforms to Azure Local.
• Experience with Azure Migrate, Azure Monitor, Azure Policy, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, or other Azure hybrid management services.
• Experience with Azure Arc-enabled services, AKS enabled by Azure Arc, or Kubernetes platforms.
• Experience with Dell, HPE, Lenovo, or other enterprise server and hyperconverged infrastructure platforms.
• Experience with automation or infrastructure-as-code using PowerShell, Python, Ansible, Terraform, or similar tools.
• Experience with disaster recovery, backup, replication, workload mobility, or hybrid cloud environments.
• Microsoft Azure, Windows Server, or related industry certifications.
• Consulting, professional services, systems integration, or customer-facing delivery experience.

The compensation range indicated in this posting reflects the On-Target Earnings (“OTE”) for this role, which includes a base salary and any applicable target bonus amount. This OTE range may vary based on the candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
