Job description
We are seeking a hands-on IT Systems Administrator to own the day-to-day operation, security, and reliability of our entire technology environment. This is a broad, self-directed role covering server and network infrastructure, cloud and productivity platforms, end-user support, and building systems. The successful candidate is equally comfortable configuring a firewall policy and walking a colleague through a login issue, and takes ownership of problems through to full resolution., * Administer and maintain Windows Server environments (2022, 2019, and legacy 2008 R2), including patching, updates, and lifecycle planning.
- Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP across the organization.
- Administer file sharing and permissions on both local workgroup and DNS-based domain networks.
- Support Windows 10/11 workstations: imaging, deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Maintain virtualized infrastructure (VMware or Hyper-V) and create, deploy, and maintain live AWS instances.
Security & Business Continuity
- Execute and verify regular data backups and maintain a working disaster recovery capability.
- Administer endpoint protection and multifactor authentication platforms.
- Manage firewall configuration, rules, and VPN access.
- Monitor system and security logs, investigate anomalies, and respond to potential breaches.
- Manage user provisioning, deprovisioning, and least-privilege access controls across all systems.
Cloud & Business Applications
- Administer Microsoft 365, including Exchange, Teams, and business applications.
- Administer Google Workspace and Google Drive.
- Support the company’s SAP ERP environment - primarily workstation-side access configuration and server-side administration.
End-User & Executive Support
- Provide responsive help desk support for hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
- Provide after-hours support and remote assistance as required.
- Set up and support all media and A/V presentations, including hybrid and in-person conference room meetings.
Vendor & Ticket Management
- Manage the ticket queue, maintenance schedules, and system documentation concurrently and without dropped items.
- Open, escalate, and follow up on vendor tickets through to full resolution.
- Administer business phone systems, including adding and editing stations and coordinating with the service provider.
- Support ancillary building systems including door card access, security cameras, and HVAC controls.
Automation
- Write and maintain scripts (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) to automate routine administrative and maintenance tasks.
Requirements
- [X]+ years of hands-on systems administration experience in a small-to-midsize business environment.
- Demonstrated expertise administering Windows Server; working familiarity with Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS) and/or macOS.
- Strong command of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and firewall administration.
- Experience with Windows file sharing and NTFS/share permission structures in both workgroup and domain environments.
- Working knowledge of hypervisors (VMware or Hyper-V) and at least one cloud platform (AWS, Microsoft 365).
- Scripting ability in PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
- Proven track record executing backups, managing permissions, and monitoring logs for security events.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical staff.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills across both hardware and software failures.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, maintain documentation, and drive issues to closure independently.
- Availability for after-hours and remote support as business needs require.
