Job description

This position is contingent upon contract award

The Java Software Developer is a mid-level application developer on the CMS Drug Data Processing System (DDPS) and Payment Reconciliation System (PRS) development team, responsible for building application features, correcting defects, and contributing to sprint delivery under the direction of the Dev Team Lead and Senior Developer. This individual develops software enhancements for the application through the Agile delivery pipeline.

This is a remote position; however, Cognitive hires only in the following designated U.S. states based on contract and business requirements: VA, DC, MD, TN, FL, AZ, CO, OR, and TX., * Develop, test, and maintain application features for DDPS/PRS including MDP invoice/dispute/reconciliation functions, CGDP legacy support, and GLP-1 drug program enhancements.

  • Correct software defects; develop reusable software components and database enhancements..
  • Deliver code through the CMS CI/CD pipeline: GitHub, Jenkins/CloudBees, JFrog Artifactory/XRay, SonarQube, and Snyk.
  • Write and maintain unit tests using Pytest/Unit Test and DBFit/FitNesse; maintain80 percent or greater automated unit test coverage for all new code).
  • Participate in sprint ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrums, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
  • Maintain source code and application documentation in accordance with CMS standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Scienceor related field; 4 or more years in Java application development.
  • Solid Java development skills with demonstrated delivery of production application features.
  • Working knowledge of Python for scripting and application support.
  • Experience with Agentic AI or AI-assisted development tools for improving developer productivity, code quality, and sprit velocity.
  • Familiarity with AWS services: EC2, Lambda, S3, SQS.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and source control: GitHub, Jenkins, JFrog.
  • Understanding of unit testing frameworks and the importance of automated test coverage.
  • Ability to pass CMS and internal required background checks for public trust.
