Network Support Specialist

• Configure and maintain network devices such as firewalls, routers, switches, and servers to safeguard our infrastructure.
• Assist with server administration tasks involving Windows Server environments and Microsoft Windows Server management tools.
• Analyze, test, troubleshoot, and evaluate existing network systems such as local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), cloud networks, servers, and other data communications networks.
• Performs network maintenance to ensure networks operate correctly with minimal interruption.
• Ability to back up network data to prevent loss of information.
• Configures security settings or access permissions for groups or individuals.
• Implements security measures for computer or information systems.
• Analyze and report computer network security breaches or attempted breaches.
• Identifies the causes of networking problems, using diagnostic testing software and equipment.
• Uses computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enters data, or process information.
• Provides information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
• Resolves computer network problems and documents network support activities.
• Keeps up to date with technical advances and applies new knowledge to the position.
• Develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintains them over time.
• Knowledgeable of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
• Must use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

• 4-5 years of work-related skills, knowledge, and experience.
• 3 years of on-the-job training and/or vocational training.
• Proven experience in IT support or help desk roles with a focus on computer networking and system administration.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP protocols, DNS management, DHCP configuration, and TCP troubleshooting techniques is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with network security measures including firewalls, VPNs, and network segmentation best practices.
• Excellent communication skills to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical users.
• Ability to analyze complex problems quickly and develop effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.

SKILLS

• Ability to use computers and computer systems to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
• Effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Work on his/her own with normal supervision. Prevents downtime by finding tasks in between assigned jobs.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong understanding of IT processes and basic IT principles.
• Ability to manage multiple functions and meet deadlines.
• Able to interact professionally with customers and employees.
