Job description

Job Summary: The IT Engineer’s role is to ensure the stable operation of the network and related components. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware (computers, firewalls, phones, routers, switches, etc.), software, and related communication equipment. The IT Engineer will also analyze and resolve end-user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end-user training where required.

Supervision: Reports to the Chief IT Officer

Supervisory Responsibilities: The Chief IT Officer assigns work in terms of general instructions. The IT Engineer may be responsible for training the IT Intern or IT Support, as well as spot-checking completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Major Duties:

  • Perform network design and capacity planning.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery.
  • Establish service level agreements with end users.
  • Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end-user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • Research network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
  • Manage servers, including email, print, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software.
  • Manage security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus and intrusion detection systems.
  • Manage all network hardware and equipment, including phones, routers, switches, hubs, and UPSs.
  • Ensure network connectivity of all workstations.
  • Administer all equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Administer and maintain end-user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Perform server and security audits.
  • Perform system backups and recovery.
  • Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Provide guidance to junior members of the team.
  • Assist in pulling wire and terminations.
  • Manage smartphones (both IOS and Android) for all employees.
  • Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues. May be required to work nights, weekends, or holidays as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned., * Work is performed within an office setting, warehouse setting, and within the field, while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of the job site in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and be able to move objects of up to fifty pounds; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, in various environmental conditions.

  • May require travel.
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers, including confined spaces.

Pay: From $80,000.00 per year

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Water and Sewerage Authority standards and practices.
  • Knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Fortinet and Microsoft products.
  • Knowledge of Wonderware/SCADA systems is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of extensive application support.
  • Technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including IP addressing, routing, and Layer 3 switching.
  • Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
  • Ability to present technical ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and must be able to improve performance through management feedback.
  • Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail, problem-solving, and follow-through., * High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field; six years of experience in a similar role; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain various industry licenses as required by the Authority.
