Job description

The Development Manager is responsible for developing comprehensive fundraising strategies to expand philanthropic support and meet organizational fundraising goals. This position implements all components of the development plan including (but not limited to): annual giving, planned giving, major individual and corporate gifts, and special fundraising events. The Development Manager has a passion and enthusiasm for building relationships with NSEA donors, connecting the community with NSEA’s mission and work, and cultivating a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization and it’s supporters., * Create and manage implementation of a diverse and comprehensive development plan to meet and exceed annual fundraising and engagement goals.

  • Grow donor base that builds and strengthens the individual giving prospect pipeline to maximize NSEA’s impact
  • Manage and nurture a portfolio of donors and community partners to cultivate, solicit and steward relationships
  • Collaborate with staff and board to engage in key fundraising efforts and to foster a culture of philanthropy and encourage relationship building and engagement
  • Support the Executive Director in relationship building, solicitation, and stewardship of NSEA’s key donors and funders.
  • Lead development of internal systems to support fundraising and relationship management efforts including database and fundraising platforms and communication to staff and board
  • Lead and develop annual fundraising events and donor engagement activities.
  • Support external communications strategies to enhance visibility and donor engagement.
  • Create regular reports that reflect the status of giving activities, trends, and opportunities. Collaborate with Finance team to update fundraising projections.
  • Monitor and manage the development budget.Provide clear fundraising goals, evaluation metrics and tracking to ensure accurate and up to date donor records
  • Ensure ethical fundraising practices and procedures.
  • Join and attend networking clubs and events in Whatcom County, as appropriate

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success in fundraising and community relationship building
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and 4 years relevant development experience or 6 years minimum relevant work experience
  • Work experience in environmental and nonprofit sector
  • Professional and effective written and oral communication
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce database and online fundraising platforms
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three years

  • Passion for NSEA’s mission in local salmon recovery; enthusiastic and energetic
  • Familiar with native and invasive plant species and identification
  • Familiar with salmon ecology and species identification
  • A “Can Do” attitude and creativity
