Systems Engineer

Robert Half is seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer for an upcoming client engagement in the Phoenix area. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, supporting, and optimizing enterprise infrastructure environments across on-premises and cloud platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Windows Server administration, virtualization technologies, cloud infrastructure, networking, security, and enterprise systems management.

This position requires a proactive technical professional who can collaborate with IT teams, business stakeholders, and leadership to ensure high availability, performance, and security across the organization’s infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain enterprise server, storage, and infrastructure solutions.

• Administer and support Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related services.

• Manage virtualization platforms including VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V.

• Support cloud infrastructure initiatives within Microsoft Azure and/or AWS environments.

• Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity planning to ensure optimal operation.

• Perform system upgrades, patch management, and infrastructure lifecycle management.

• Develop and maintain disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity solutions.

• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure, server, storage, network, and application issues.

• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to implement security best practices and maintain compliance requirements.

• Configure and support identity and access management solutions, including Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).

• Create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures.

• Participate in infrastructure projects, migrations, cloud transformations, and system modernization initiatives.

• Provide Tier III escalation support and technical leadership for infrastructure-related incidents.

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

• 5+ years of experience in Systems Administration, Systems Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or related roles.

• Strong experience supporting Windows Server environments.

• Expertise with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Microsoft server technologies.

• Hands-on experience with VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization platforms.

• Experience managing Microsoft 365 and cloud infrastructure environments.

• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, and firewalls.

• Experience with enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions.

• Proficiency with PowerShell scripting and automation.

• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Microsoft Azure, Azure Virtual Desktop, or AWS.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Intune and endpoint management solutions.

• Experience with SAN, NAS, and enterprise storage technologies.

• Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and infrastructure security best practices.

• Exposure to Linux server administration.

• Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments.

• Relevant certifications such as:

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert

• VMware Certified Professional (VCP)

• CompTIA Security+
