Job description

The Construction Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all phases of fiber optic utility construction projects. This role ensures work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with company standards, customer specifications, and local, state, and federal regulations. The Superintendent serves as the primary field leader, managing crews, subcontractors, equipment, and project execution from mobilization through final restoration., Supervise daily construction activities for underground and aerial fiber optic installations.

Coordinate and direct field crews, subcontractors, and equipment resources.

Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and utility construction standards.

Review project plans, permits, specifications, and construction drawings before work begins.

Monitor project schedules and productivity to meet deadlines and customer expectations.

Conduct daily job site inspections to ensure quality workmanship and regulatory compliance.

Coordinate utility locates, traffic control, permitting requirements, and environmental compliance.

Track labor, equipment usage, and material inventory.

Communicate project progress, delays, and issues to Project Managers and clients.

Resolve field challenges while minimizing impacts to schedule and budget.

Verify proper installation of conduit, handholes, vaults, fiber cable, splice enclosures, and restoration work.

Maintain accurate daily reports, production logs, safety documentation, and as-built records.

Participate in customer meetings, inspections, and project closeout activities.

Mentor and train field personnel to improve productivity, quality, and safety performance.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field is preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in fiber optic or utility construction, including supervisory experience.

Strong understanding of underground and aerial fiber installation methods.

Experience managing subcontractors and multiple crews simultaneously.

Ability to interpret construction plans, utility maps, and engineering drawings.

Knowledge of OSHA regulations, MUTCD traffic control standards, and utility construction practices.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Ability to travel to project sites as required.

Ability to walk uneven terrain and active construction sites.

Lift up to 50 pounds as needed.

Ability to stand, bend, climb, and work extended hours when required.
