Job description
- Install, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot Police Department computer systems and technology
- Support specialized law enforcement technology including mobile data terminals (MDTs), in-car video, eTicket systems, body-worn cameras (BWCs), license plate readers (LPRs), LiveScan, communications systems, and digital video systems
- Support both cloud-based and on-premises technology environments
- Install and maintain firewalls, VPNs, servers, wireless access points, network switches, security cameras, printers, and phone systems
- Manage and support user authentication and multifactor authentication
- Implement and maintain information security, user access, and data integrity
- Perform and monitor system backup and recovery procedures
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, network, and end-user technology issues
- Configure and deploy computers, equipment, applications, and operating systems
- Assist employees with technology requests and provide training on system upgrades and changes
- Evaluate technology products and make recommendations regarding hardware and software purchases
- Coordinate Police Department technology needs with the Cityâs IT personnel
- Work directly with technology vendors to troubleshoot issues and implement solutions
- Serve as Custodian of Records for digital media
- Serve as the departmentâs Local Agency Security Officer (LASO)
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current CompTIA A+ certification
- Strong knowledge of personal computers and productivity software
- Knowledge of networking and routing
- Knowledge of Active Directory
- Knowledge of backup and restoration processes
- Ability to learn and support the specialized systems utilized by the Police Department
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to interact professionally and positively with a diverse population
- Ability to learn proper handling of electronic evidence and creation of digital copies
- Valid driverâs license, Weâre especially interested in candidates who bring additional education, certifications, or experience in areas such as:
- Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field
- CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, and/or Project+ certifications
- VMware and Hyper-V
- Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Networks (SAN)
- Group Policy Management
- Network administration
- Exchange Server
- Battery backup systems
- RAID
- Encryption

Physical & Work Environment
This position is generally performed in an office environment and may involve extended periods working at a computer, telephone, or workstation.
The position may also require standing, walking, climbing, stooping, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to approximately 40 pounds.
Because this position supports a law enforcement environment, employees may occasionally be exposed to conditions outside of a traditional office setting.
