Job description
Borsight’s Embedded Software Engineerdesigns, develops, and maintains software that runs directly on hardware platforms such as microcontrollers, embedded processors, and real-time operating systems (RTOS). This role focuses on low-level, performance-critical, and hardware-integrated software that enables devices to operate reliably, efficiently, and predictably.
The software engineering group is responsible for the design, development, and integration of software for avionics, mission systems, and datalinks on legacy DoD and FAA certificated aircraft through all phases of the software engineering.
Engineers will assist in the development and testing of multiple software projects, including performing coding, debugging, testing and troubleshooting throughout the software development process. Coding is done using Java, C, Android, and similar languages. This position offers opportunities for growth and leadership., · Design, implement, and optimize RTOS-based components including tasks, scheduling, IPC, timers, and memory management.
· Write and debug device drivers, HAL layers, and board support packages (BSP).
· Implement and maintain bootloaders, startup code, and low-level initialization routines.
· Create technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, interface specifications, user manuals, etc.
· Execute the agile SCRUM development process.
· Produce cross-platform, compact, well-documented code.
· Be a self-starter, i.e. capable starting with limited requirements, design and develop a potential solution, present the solution to peers, accept input, and modify the solution based on that input.
· Work as part of a team, both providing and requesting assistance when required.
· Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and recommend improvements to products, processes, and tools.
· Work is primarily performed in an office environment with periodic presence in labs, production areas, and on aircraft as required.
· Attend internal and external technical and program meetings as required.
· Work may require short-term CONUS TDYs to meet with users and/or perform system analysis.
· Existing passport desired for OCONUS travel.
Requirements
Borsight’s Embedded Software Engineers must have a BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Must have experience with RTOS platforms (e.g. PikeOS, Zephyr, FreeRTOS). Solid understanding of microcontroller architecture (ARM Cortex, RISC-V, etc.). Familiarity with interrupts, timers, DMA, and peripheral interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB).
Technical requirements also include understanding of low-level concepts like memory maps, linker scripts, boot sequences, and hardware registers. Knowledge and ability to develop in Java, C, C++, and Android is required, as is a willingness to learn other computer languages as directed. Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams.
Must be knowledgeable and passionate about complex math algorithms. Understand Object-Oriented programming languages, including Java. Must also have the ability to document requirements, specifications, and deficiencies. Engineers must have experience using MS Office products including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Excel is required., · Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for reporting to executive leadership as well as customers.
· Ability to work autonomously, either independently or with a group to accomplish specified tasks.
· Fully developed organizational and leadership skills.
· Proven analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
· Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding sensitive defense projects.
· Thrives in a fast-paced environment where change is normal and multiple tasks must be managed daily.
Physical Requirements:
The ability to sit or stand for extended periods while reviewing documentation or working on a computer, as well as the ability to perform prolonged computer-based tasks such as reading, typing, and digital document review. The position may involve occasional walking, bending, or reaching to access files or materials, and the ability to lift and carry light documents or supplies, typically up to 10-15 pounds. Adequate vision is necessary to read printed and digital technical documents, with or without corrective lenses, and the role requires participation in both in-person and virtual meetings.
