Job description

Altech Solutions is hiring a Senior Linux Systems Administrator to support NASA enterprise IT and aerospace infrastructure at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. This is a hands-on senior role for someone who has spent a career keeping mission-critical Linux and virtualized environments running - and wants that work to matter. You will own the health of the servers and systems behind NASA operational environments: designing the environment and software layers for reliability, scalability, security, and high availability across Linux, Windows, and virtual infrastructure. You will lead application deployment and patch efforts, define system test procedures, and work shoulder-to-shoulder with database administrators, network engineers, application teams, and NASA customers. Before You Apply - Three Hard Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required - this is a federal contract. Non Negotiable
  • You must live within 50 miles of Marshall Space Flight Center (Huntsville, AL), or be already relocated at your own expense before your start date. This is non-negotiable and we do not offer relocation assistance.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance. Candidates who currently hold an active Public Trust are strongly preferred and will be prioritized.

What You’ll Do

  • System Integration - Run day-to-day operation and ongoing support of servers and systems, including event, fault, and performance management. Install, monitor, and troubleshoot operating systems, hardware, and infrastructure. Design environment and software layers for reliable, scalable, secure, highly available Linux, Windows, and virtual environments.
  • Application & Deployment - Lead application teams responsible for continuous software enhancements, patch management, and deployments across development environments.
  • Agile Collaboration - Partner with systems administrators, database and application administrators, network engineers, customers, and outside vendors to engineer solutions and resolve problems.
  • Documentation & Testing - Define system test procedures and task success criteria; maintain technical architecture diagrams, system build documentation, and application update records. Direct overall system-level testing.
  • Gap Analysis - Find weaknesses in the environment and apply structured problem-solving methodology to close them before they become outages.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field
  • 12 years of professional systems engineering, application deployment, or IT infrastructure experience
  • Strong hands-on Linux/UNIX administration, including command-line environment tracking
  • Windows Server administration experience
  • VMware or OpenShift virtualization experience
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance or higher
  • Residence within 50 miles of NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, AL, * Active Public Trust clearance
  • Active industry certifications - Red Hat (RHCSA/RHCE), CompTIA Security+, Cisco CCNA/CCNP
  • Direct experience supporting government, aerospace, or real-time NASA mission-critical environments
  • Storage array experience - Nexsan, Dell Unity
  • iDRAC / IPMI out-of-band management experience
  • Strong RHEL foundation paired with solid Windows fundamentals
  • Ability to write and maintain Python programs or shell scripts in a UNIX environment for automation and data migration between systems
  • Knowledge of Cisco Software Defined Networking technologies
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines, automated infrastructure tooling, and Agile frameworks
