Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Center MEP Technician to join our Critical Facilities Operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and reliability of mission-critical mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) infrastructure supporting a high-availability data center environment.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in critical facilities, industrial plants, hospitals, or data centers and is passionate about safety, operational excellence, and maintaining continuous uptime.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, inspect, and maintain critical mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) infrastructure.
  • Operate and maintain chilled water systems, HVAC equipment, including Air Handling Units (AHUs), Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAHs), make-up air units, diesel generators, exhaust systems, humidification systems, filtration equipment, and associated piping systems.
  • Monitor electrical distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), Remote Power Panels (RPPs), and associated electrical infrastructure while coordinating with qualified electrical personnel as required.
  • Perform routine facility rounds to inspect equipment, identify abnormal operating conditions, monitor capacity, and respond to alarms using Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), and other facility monitoring tools.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance utilizing the site’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Support change management activities by reviewing work plans, participating in pre-job planning, executing approved procedures, and verifying equipment status before and after maintenance.
  • Coordinate and oversee vendors, contractors, and service providers performing maintenance and construction activities.
  • Participate in equipment startup, commissioning, Integrated Systems Testing (IST), and turnover activities.
  • Develop, review, and continuously improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Maintenance Operating Procedures (MOPs), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and maintenance documentation.
  • Support emergency response activities involving utility failures, mechanical failures, generator operations, chilled water outages, fire protection systems, environmental incidents, and severe weather events.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, NFPA, EPA, environmental regulations, and company safety policies while promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, commissioning, and construction teams to ensure maximum reliability and availability of all critical facility infrastructure.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical school, military technical training, or associate degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience operating and maintaining critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure in a data center, hospital, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, utility, or other mission-critical environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems including chilled water plants, HVAC equipment, pumps, valves, piping systems, cooling towers, and related equipment.
  • Experience with electrical distribution equipment including UPS systems, generators, switchgear, transformers, ATS, and power distribution systems.
  • Experience using Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), and CMMS platforms.
  • Understanding of preventive maintenance programs, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), OSHA regulations, and NFPA safety standards.
  • Ability to read mechanical, electrical, and control system drawings and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a hyperscale or enterprise data center.
  • Electrical or HVAC certifications.
  • Experience supporting commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
  • Knowledge of redundancy concepts (N+1, 2N, concurrently maintainable systems).
  • Military technical experience is highly valued.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk data center floors for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in mechanical and electrical equipment rooms.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations, including after-hours support when required.
