Job description

Google’s software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We’re looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

As a part of the Google Global Network (GGN), the world’s largest network, defined by a unique architecture ensuring reliability, speed, and hardware efficiency, you will span the Edge, B2, and B4 backbones, makes infrastructure present massive-scale engineering issues requiring sophisticated, well-tested network management services and specialized device validation.

You will manage a network of this magnitude as high-stakes, minor regressions can impact global connectivity. As a part of the GGN Engineering Productivity team, you will be the backbone of this reliability, provide comprehensive tools and infrastructure empowering GGN Engineering to test network software and hardware effectively. You will partner with service owners to architect end-to-end testing strategies, from functional and integration testing to full-scale staging environments.

You will ensure the software managing Google’s global traffic is scalable and validated against the highest standards of engineering excellence.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

  • Deliver high-level technical leadership to emulation engineers by defining design and implementation strategies, conduct rigorous architectural reviews, and personally resolve the team’s most complex technical bottlenecks.
  • Evaluate and integrate cutting-edge Google technologies and cloud-native patterns to modernize the GGN Engineering Productivi (EngProd) stack and maintain a competitive edge in infrastructure productivity.
  • Establish and institutionalize industry-best practices in automated testing, code health, and agile methodologies, elevating the engineering standards across the broader organization.
