Job description
CGI Federal is seeking a Federal Financials Consultant to support a federal financial management and compliance program focused on SFFAS research, accounting policy development, and financial process documentation. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with government stakeholders on critical financial management activities, including federal accounting research, documentation modernization, process mapping, and analysis that strengthens financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance.
This position is located in our Fairfax, VA office; however, a hybrid working model is acceptable.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
. Conduct research and analysis related to Statements of Federal Financial Accounting Standards (SFFAS), Treasury Financial Manual (TFM) guidance, OMB Circular A 136, and other federal financial reporting requirements.
. Assist with drafting, updating, and maintaining accounting policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), process maps, and supporting documentation.
. Interview client personnel to document existing accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting requirements; translate findings into accurate and well organized narratives and workflows
. Support recurring compliance and financial management deliverables by preparing research summaries, white papers, analysis notes, and briefing materials.
. Assess documentation for completeness, consistency, and alignment with federal standards; recommend improvements and help modernize the document repository structure.
. Maintain organized document repositories, taxonomies, version control, and cross references for accounting policies and SOP packages
. Conduct financial analysis, trend identification, and data validation in support of internal controls, reconciliations, and compliance.
Requirements
Foundational understanding of accounting principles, federal financial management concepts, and audit fundamentals.
. Ability to interpret and research federal financial regulations (e.g., SFFAS, OMB, GAO, Treasury guidance).
. Experience developing documentation such as SOPs, audit workpapers, policies, or process flows
. Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce organized, accurate, client ready deliverables.
. Analytical ability to assess accounting processes, identify trends, validate data, and support compliance assessments.
. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
. Ability to obtain and maintain federal background investigation/suitability clearance (background check and fingerprinting required).
Desired qualifications/non essential skills required:
. Familiarity with data visualization or dashboard tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Excel pivot dashboards.
. Experience designing presentations, briefing materials, or data visualizations for financial or compliance audiences.
. Ability to translate financial data or process information into clear, visual formats appropriate for leadership review.

CGI is required by law in some jurisdictions to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $70,800.00 $172,400.00.
