Job description
We’re looking for a Data Scientist to join our team supporting the BioSurveillance Integration Platform (BIP). In this role, you’ll develop, test, and deploy machine learning and statistical models that turn structured and unstructured mission data into actionable insight for biosurveillance, force health protection, and mission decision-makers - including in constrained or disconnected tactical environments.
This role follows a phased work arrangement: fully remote during Phase 1 (stand-up and early build), transitioning to hybrid during Phase 2 to support integration, testing, and delivery milestones.
What You’ll Do
Develop, test, and deploy machine learning and statistical models supporting mission use cases
Build and maintain data pipelines supporting model training and inference
Apply data cleansing, feature engineering, and transformation techniques
Analyze structured and unstructured datasets to generate insights for biosurveillance and force health protection
Build dashboards and analytic products that translate model output into operationally useful information
Adapt models and inference pipelines for edge, austere, and tactical environments with limited bandwidth, compute, or connectivity
Document methodologies, models, and results for technical and non-technical audiences
Support model risk reviews, bias assessments, and AI assurance activities
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent relevant experience
5+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or machine learning
Proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch)
Experience with statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and data visualization
Familiarity with data engineering concepts and large datasets
Experience deploying models into production and understanding of MLOps practices
Active Secret clearance, with ability to maintain it throughout the period of performance
U.S. Citizenship
Nice to Have
Master’s or doctoral degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Epidemiology, or related field
Cloud ML certification (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
Prior experience on DoD or federal AI/ML programs
Experience with Palantir Foundry, Maven Smart System, or similar federated analytic environments
Familiarity with biosurveillance, epidemiology, public health, or force health protection analytics
Experience with MLOps tooling (MLflow, Kubeflow, SageMaker, Vertex AI)
Familiarity with model risk management, explainability methods, and AI assurance frameworks (e.g., NIST AI RMF)
Tools & Platforms
Python ML stack (Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch), Palantir Foundry, Maven Smart System, AWS SageMaker, Azure ML, Vertex AI, Jira, Confluence, Git, Microsoft Office 365
Benefits & conditions
