Client-Facing Solutions Architect - Technical Discovery & Project Scoping

We are seeking an experienced, client-facing Solutions Architect to help evaluate prospective software projects, lead technical discovery conversations, and translate business requirements into practical engineering plans.

This is a part-time, hourly role focused primarily on client communication, solution discovery, technical assessment, and project scoping. It is not a traditional full-time development position. The successful candidate will represent our engineering organization during authorized client meetings and help determine whether proposed projects are technically feasible, appropriately defined, and ready for delivery.

• Guide conversations about business goals, product expectations, technical constraints, timelines, and delivery requirements.
• Ask structured questions to uncover functional and non-functional requirements.
• Review proposed system architecture, application components, data flows, and integration needs.
• Discuss frontend, backend, API, database, cloud, infrastructure, security, and deployment considerations.
• Identify technical risks, missing information, dependencies, assumptions, and potential delivery challenges.
• Convert client discussions into organized technical notes, action items, and requirement summaries.
• Help define preliminary solution options and implementation approaches.
• Evaluate whether a proposed engagement is technically realistic and sufficiently detailed for estimation.
• Collaborate with internal engineering and business teams during project qualification.
• Participate in project-related technical reviews or client-requested solution assessments when needed.
• Clearly communicate technical trade-offs to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders., * Payment for scheduled client meetings, technical evaluations, and other approved working hours.
• Primarily remote work within the United States.

• Strong professional background in software engineering, solution architecture, technical consulting, or a related discipline.
• Approximately five or more years of relevant professional experience preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of software architecture and system design principles.
• Confidence communicating directly with clients and leading structured technical conversations.
• Ability to convert business objectives into clear technical requirements and implementation considerations.
• Working knowledge of APIs, databases, cloud platforms, security concepts, and modern software delivery practices.
• Professional experience with one or more programming languages, such as:

Comparable modern programming languages

• Strong spoken and written English.
• Ability to produce concise, accurate meeting notes and technical summaries.
• Sound professional judgment when discussing incomplete or uncertain requirements.
• Must currently reside in the United States.
• Must meet all applicable legal work-eligibility requirements for the position.
• Must be available for occasional in-person visits to our office in [City, State].

Preferred Experience

• Previous work in a software consultancy, development agency, professional-services organization, or client-facing engineering team.
• Experience conducting technical discovery workshops or requirements-gathering sessions.
• Familiarity with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience estimating software projects or contributing to statements of work.
• Experience participating in technical assessments, architecture reviews, or solution presentations.
• Experience mentoring developers or facilitating discussions across engineering teams.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients who have different levels of technical knowledge.

Work Arrangement and Compensation

• Part-time, hourly engagement.
• Flexible schedule based on scheduled client meetings and project needs.
• Compensation range: $40-$80 per hour, depending on relevant experience and suitability for the assignment., This position is well suited to an experienced engineer or architect who enjoys understanding unfamiliar business problems, asking thoughtful questions, and bringing structure to early-stage project discussions.

You should be comfortable speaking with clients, recognizing missing requirements, explaining technical trade-offs, and helping both technical and non-technical participants reach a shared understanding of the proposed solution.
