Job description

The Configuration & Data Management Assistant provides critical support to the Configuration & Data Management (CDM) team by performing precise data entry, maintaining configuration records, and processing change documentation. This role focuses on foundational CDM activities to ensure product data is complete, consistent, and properly controlled in alignment with internal procedures. The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work with technical data, and effective communication across technical and non-technical teams.

Responsibilities

  • Manage configuration baselines and product structures to ensure product data remains accurate, complete, and properly controlled.

  • Perform accurate and timely data entry across multiple systems, including ERP, PLM/QMS, and related tools.

  • Create and distribute document and part numbers for multiple programs, ensuring consistency with internal standards and procedures.

  • Assist with root cause analysis for CDM issues, helping to identify, document, and resolve data and configuration discrepancies.

  • Interface professionally with customers, auditors, and program teams to support configuration and data management activities.

  • Cross-check information, organize records, and update databases to maintain data integrity and traceability.

  • Prioritize and manage multiple requests across multiple systems while meeting deadlines and maintaining data quality.

  • Collaborate with developers and technical teams by breaking down processes and clearly communicating requirements and issues.

  • Work with engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and digital product structures to support accurate configuration control.

  • Use Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, to analyze, track, and report on configuration and data management information.

  • Support continuous improvement of CDM processes by following established procedures and providing feedback where appropriate.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the broader CDM and program objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 0 to 2+ years of related experience, or 4+ years of related experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in cross-checking information, organizing records, and updating databases.

  • Capability to prioritize multiple requests across multiple systems while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with technical data, including configuration and product information.

  • Ability to communicate effectively across multiple groups, including technical, non-technical, and customer-facing teams.

  • Experience working with engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and digital product structures.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Administrative support experience with a focus on data entry and documentation control.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including experience with Excel.

  • Experience using ERP systems, including transitioning or working between systems such as Costpoint and Business Central.

  • Ability to break down processes and clearly communicate requirements and issues to developers and technical stakeholders.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with PLM and QMS systems such as Jira, TIPQA, SharePoint, PDM, and Business Central.

  • Advanced Excel skills, including working with complex spreadsheets, data analysis, and reporting.

  • Familiarity with product data management (PDM) practices and tools.

  • Comfort working within structured engineering and configuration management processes.

  • Interest in supporting complex, high-performance electronic systems and space-related programs.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, review-driven engineering environment.

Work Environment

This role is based on-site in the Sterling, VA office, working five days per week in a collaborative engineering and product development environment. The team emphasizes rigorous engineering principles, continuous improvement, and structured product development processes that include design and peer reviews. The work involves regular use of ERP systems, PLM/QMS tools (such as Jira, TIPQA, SharePoint, PDM, and Business Central), and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. The environment supports complex, high-performance space-based electronic systems and involves close collaboration with program teams, developers, and other stakeholders. This is a Contract position based out of Fairfax, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.04 - $42.93/hr.
