Job description

The IT Field Support Technician provides on-the-ground technical support and customer service to CEC employees at project sites and office locations across the country. This role travels up to 80% of the time, serving as the local, face-to-face IT resource at each site visited. The IT Field Support Technician resolves hardware, software, and network issues in person, supports onboarding and equipment setup, and represents the IT department as a courteous, professional point of contact for end users who otherwise rely on remote support. This role combines hands-on technical troubleshooting with strong customer service skills to ensure site personnel receive timely, high-quality IT support regardless of location., * Travel to assigned project sites and office locations up to 80% of the time, serving as the primary in-person IT contact for site personnel.

  • Provide courteous, professional, and responsive technical support to end users at each site visited, resolving issues on the spot whenever possible.
  • Build strong working relationships with site leadership and staff, ensuring IT support feels accessible and responsive rather than remote or impersonal.
  • Represent the IT department professionally, setting the tone for how field employees experience technology support across the company.
  • Communicate clearly with end users of varying technical skill levels, translating technical issues and solutions into plain language.
  • Provide hands-on and remote problem resolution support for computer software, hardware, peripherals, and network issues across all corporate users.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for troubleshooting hardware, software, PC, and printer problems at each site.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, resolve, and escalate issues related to desktop hardware, software, and equipment installation and configuration.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, resolve, and escalate issues related to local area network and phone equipment at project sites.
  • Perform installs, upgrades, moves, and changes for workstation hardware and software, printers, and other peripheral devices.
  • Learn and support all internal business applications, providing first-level PC, network, and application support to a distributed user base.
  • Grant access, and reset and change passwords for end users in accordance with IT security protocols.
  • Enforce Information Technology company policies and procedures across all site and office locations visited.
  • Log all calls, site visits, and support activities accurately in the IT tracking system.
  • Support special projects and additional duties as assigned by the IT Manager., This position requires frequent travel to project sites and office locations nationwide, up to 80% of the time. Work is performed in a mix of office, field, and active construction site settings, and may include exposure to conditions typical of those environments. This role routinely uses standard office and IT equipment such as computers, phones, and networking tools, and requires regular driving or air travel between locations.
  • Requires frequent travel, including driving and air travel, to project sites and offices across the country.
  • Requires mobility within office, field, and construction site environments, including walking, standing, and navigating varied terrain.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience performing level-one help desk or IT support as part of a corporate IT team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Basic technical certification (A+, Network+, MCP, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Prior experience in a field-based, multi-site, or traveling support role preferred.

Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of desktop computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office, MS Windows 10, and Citrix.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with networking technologies (TCP/IP) and associated wiring, including network voice and data cabling.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to build trust and rapport quickly at unfamiliar sites.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a variable travel schedule while maintaining consistent support quality across locations.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to diagnose issues efficiently under time constraints.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting a professional image as a representative of the Company.
  • Strong time management skills; ability to plan and prioritize across multiple sites and competing demands.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; comfortable with frequent air and ground travel., * Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, including computer equipment and peripherals.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear; ability to communicate effectively with others both written and orally, including by telephone.
  • Possess good vision and hearing, normal or corrected.
  • Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, with overtime, and occasional night or weekend support, as needed.
  • Must be able to work in the presence of site personnel and client representatives while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
