Job description
The City of Cleveland IT Department is accepting applications from qualified individuals for the position of Assistant IT Director. The purpose of this job is to assist in the overall planning, organizing, and execution of all IT functions for the City of Cleveland. This includes directing all IT operations to meet staff and citizen requirements as well as the support and maintenance of existing infrastructure, applications, and development of new technical solutions.This position works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
MAJOR ACTIVITIES of the position include:
- Assists in providing overall IT governance for the City of Cleveland and Bradley/Cleveland 911 Center
- Provides day-to-day supervision, conducts performance appraisals, and delegates work assignments for all IT personnel at the City and 911 Center
- Assists in recruiting, hiring, and providing appropriate training for IT support staff
- Oversee the development, design, and implementation of new applications and changes to existing computer systems and software packages.
- Maintains the integrity and continual operation of the IT network including the Active Directory, email, internet, wireless, and mobile user connectivity
- Maintains security and privacy of the information systems, communication lines, and equipment
- Develops, reviews, and certifies all back-up and disaster recovery procedures and plans
- Develop and maintain system standards
- Assist Director with preparing annual IT budget
- Helps control operational budget and expenditures, including software and hardware maintenance agreements
- Develops and interprets organizational goals, policies, and procedures
- Consults with the City Manager, IT Director, Department Heads, users, IT staff, and vendors to assess software and hardware needs
- Responsible for the ordering, acquisition, inventorying, and disposition of hardware and software
- Directs daily operations of department, analyzing workflow, establishing priorities, developing standards, and setting deadlines
- Prepares and reviews operational reports or project progress reports
- Assists Network Admins with advanced network firewall/switch configurations
- Provides technical support for hardware and software for all computer users
- Stays abreast of advances in technology
- Demonstrates reliable and consistent attendance to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.
- Demonstrates ability to work cooperatively with others
- Performs related work as required
- Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requirements
- Associate’s degree from a two-year accredited college or university or 10 years of progressive IT experience, including hands-on technical work and team leadership.
