Job description

An innovative engineering organisation developing next-generation satellite communications technology is seeking a System Integration Test Engineer to join its growing engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on cutting-edge SATCOM user terminals, active phased array antennas and RF systems, supporting the integration, validation and testing of advanced products used in demanding real-world environments.

You’ll work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams, taking products from laboratory validation through to field testing and customer deployments, ensuring performance, reliability and quality throughout the development lifecycle.

The Role

As a System Integration Test Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and executing test strategies for advanced satellite communication systems. This is a hands-on position combining laboratory testing, hardware integration, field trials and customer-facing engineering support., * Develop and execute comprehensive system integration and verification test plans.

  • Integrate and validate complete satellite communication terminals, including active phased array antenna systems.
  • Perform hardware integration, assembly, disassembly and troubleshooting of antenna modules and prototype systems.
  • Support the installation and configuration of antenna test environments and outdoor validation facilities.
  • Conduct engineering field trials and drive testing to evaluate system performance in operational environments.
  • Investigate and resolve hardware, software and system integration issues.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts using Python and Shell scripting where appropriate.
  • Produce clear technical documentation, test reports and validation records.
  • Collaborate closely with software, hardware and systems engineering teams to deliver high-quality products.
  • Support customer demonstrations, engineering field testing and product validation activities.

Requirements

We’re looking for someone with a strong systems integration and testing background within satellite communications or a related RF communications environment., * Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

  • Several years of experience testing satellite communication products, RF systems or user terminals.
  • Hands-on experience integrating and troubleshooting complex hardware systems.
  • Strong understanding of IP networking, including TCP/IP, DHCP, IPv4/IPv6, routing and VLANs.
  • Experience working with automated testing and scripting using Python and/or Shell.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to system-level debugging.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (approximately 15%) to support field testing and customer activities.

Desirable Experience

  • Active electronically steered or phased array antenna systems.
  • RF test equipment such as spectrum analysers, signal generators and network analysers.
  • Linux operating systems.
  • Jira, Confluence or other engineering collaboration tools.
  • Satellite communications, wireless communications or defence systems.
