Job description

The Network Engineer’s role is to ensure stability, integrity, and efficient operation by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems. The Network Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues with multiprotocol routers, multilayer switches, network security devices, and network management systems. This Network Engineer will also mentor and provide guidance to the Systems Engineer staff., Essential Duties:

  • Troubleshoot network performance issues. Analyze network traffic and provide capacity planning solutions.
  • Monitor and respond to complex technical control facility hardware and software problems. Interface with vendor support service groups to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance.
  • Provide overall data center networking support and troubleshooting in an enterprise environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical team members, ensuring seamless communication.
  • Lead design reviews and contribute to the development of scalable network architectures.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement firewall strategies, ensuring robust information security.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex network problems, optimizing network performance.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation related to network configurations and topologies.
  • Introduce and integrate cutting-edge technologies, enhancing our data center environment.
  • Liaise with third-party vendors, ensuring smooth and swift client-vendor interactions.
  • Perform a variety of network engineering tasks and activities that are broad in nature and are concerned with major systems design, integration, and implementation, including hardware, software, and support facilities and/or equipment.
  • Provide technical expertise with agency-specific security best practices and deliver policy-level standards and documentation.

Other Duties

Performs other duties as assigned., Sitting: The Network Engineer will spend a significant portion of the day seated at a desk, attending meetings, and working on a computer.

Standing: Occasional standing is required during presentations, meetings, and site visits.

Travel: The Network Engineer may be required to travel frequently to meet with clients, government officials, and other stakeholders.

Mobility: The role may involve moving between different locations within the office or visiting operational sites, which may require walking or standing for extended periods.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet all of the following. Applications that do not meet these will not move forward to interview:

  • Active CCNA or CCNP certification (not expired, not in-progress)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Network Engineer
  • Location: This is a hybrid position. Candidates must be located in or able to commute to the Washington, DC area and be available to work on-site as required.
  • Eligible for or currently hold a DOJ Public Trust clearance (TS or Secret can qualify for reciprocity). You must be a U.S. citizen or otherwise legally eligible to obtain and maintain this clearance.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without need for employer sponsorship, now or in the future, * Well-versed in advanced engineering and administration of multiprotocol routers, multilayer switches, network security devices, and network management systems (Cisco products preferred). Excellent tier 2/3 network troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding and experience with virtual and software-defined networks. This position requires excellent problem-management and customer service skills. Works well with a small team, is a great communicator, and is customer-facing.
  • Advanced working knowledge of various networking technologies, including but not limited to Cisco switches, routers, access points, firewalls, and security solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with IP, DHCP, and VLAN configurations.
  • Experience with cloud networking and wireless technology.
  • Knowledge of SDWAN, BGP protocol, and data center Cisco EVPN.
  • Cisco proficiency including hardware and software diagnostic tools, including but not limited to Cisco Digital Network Architecture (DNA) software and Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE).
  • Experience with Infoblox software is a plus.
  • VMware software-defined networking NSX-T is a plus., * Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Network Engineer. BS or BA in a related field or relevant work experience.
  • DOJ Public Trust or must be eligible to clear (TS or Secret can qualify for reciprocity).
  • One or more of the Cisco certs listed (must be active): CCNA/CCNP required. CCIE a plus. VMware VCP-NSX-T preferred.
