Job description
We are seeking an experienced Database Engineer to join our team in Englewood, NJ. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in managing and optimizing MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Redis databases across both on-premises and AWS cloud environments. This role requires hands-on experience with database administration, high availability, performance tuning, automation, backup and recovery, and cloud-native database services.Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Redis databases in both on-premises and AWS environments.
- Design, implement, and manage database replication solutions to ensure high availability and business continuity.
- Administer and optimize AWS database services, including:
- Amazon RDS
- Amazon Aurora
- Amazon ElastiCache
- Amazon DynamoDB
- Amazon S3
- Amazon EC2
- Automate database provisioning, configuration, and maintenance using Ansible and AWS CloudFormation.
- Design and implement monitoring and alerting solutions using AWS CloudWatch, PMM, Datadog, and MonYog.
- Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, health checks, and capacity planning.
- Collaborate with application development teams to design efficient database schemas and optimize SQL queries.
- Partner with DevSecOps teams to implement database security best practices, patches, and version upgrades.
- Develop, maintain, and regularly test backup and disaster recovery strategies to minimize downtime and data loss.
- Generate ad-hoc reports and provide database insights to internal stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot database issues, ensuring high availability and optimal performance across production and non-production environments.
- Support Linux-based database environments and automate administrative tasks using scripting.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Engineer, Database Administrator (DBA), or similar role.
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- MySQL
- PostgreSQL
- Redis
- Experience administering AWS database services:
- RDS
- Aurora
- ElastiCache
- DynamoDB
- Experience with database replication, clustering, and high availability solutions.
- Proficiency with automation tools such as Ansible and AWS CloudFormation.
- Experience with monitoring tools including CloudWatch, Datadog, PMM, and MonYog.
- Strong SQL performance tuning and query optimization skills.
- Good knowledge of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
- Strong Linux administration skills.
- Experience with Shell Scripting or Python for automation.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and hybrid environments.
- Knowledge of database security best practices.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps methodologies and CI/CD workflows.
