Job description
You are a hungry, hands-on technical leader who is excited about powering a growing tech-enabled healthcare services startup. You want to leave your fingerprints on how we build, not just what we build. Youâre excited to set the engineering culture and technical standards from the ground up. You are the ultimate scale-shifter: hands on coding at one moment, and leading company tech strategy the next. You are excited to oversee an on/offshore team who builds and maintains the IMPaCT software application: the secret ingredient to CHW magic at scale. You have successfully navigated the thorny process of EHR integration. You have a strong security mindset. You know where the AI puck is going and can leverage it to create transformative efficiencies., * Inherit a capable team of 10 engineers and solid foundation, then raise the ceiling by driving both technical quality and team growth as we scale.
- Define our engineering hiring bar, onboarding approach, and technical culture as we grow. Youâre not just filling a seat on the org chart; youâre helping write the playbook.
- Serve as the primary on-shore production engineer. For instance, you will help triage bug fixes on the prod environment, and support DevOps and Customer Enablement teams in troubleshooting issues with customer data, SSO, or sFTP.
- Guide the design and architecture of all new solutions. Establish, apply, and audit design principles and coding standards to ensure robustness and HIPAA compliance.
- Partner closely with the Product team to translate business requirements into a technical roadmap. Drive project progress via JIRA and take accountability for engineering velocity and documentation quality.
- Be relentless in ensuring that we deliver high quality software and maintain/extend the tooling that tests, monitors, and scales our systems.
- Prioritize, refine, and - most importantly - execute on our technical backlog.
- Lead a small team of security and IT professionals to maintain IMPaCTâs strong security stance, ensure continued SOC2 compliance and successfully complete security reviews for large-scale customer organizations.
- Lead the execution of our EHR interoperability.
-
Lead the execution of our Data and Reporting Architecture/Infrastructure
- Own the technology budget with a builderâs mindset, prioritizing investment in what compounds and cutting what doesnât.
- Guide tech strategy (including AI adoption) with a balance of innovation and fiscal responsibility.
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical direction in a startup environment, whether through a formal engineering leadership role or as a senior IC who drove architecture and raised the team around you.
- Recent experience and comfort with being an individual contributor.
- Experience within our tech stack: AWS-hosted microservice architecture, Java/Springboot, React, PostgreSQL
- Experience implementing integrations between health systems and EHRs.
- Experience with building and supporting cloud-hosted, microservice architectures.
- A security-first mindset with application development and cloud infrastructure.
- Expertise with modern development practices, such as automated testing, IaC, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, unit testing, and vulnerability scanning
One of our core values is to create a diverse workplace that welcomes and values each team memberâs unique perspective, background, and ideas. We are committed to an inclusive and diverse workplace.

Across multiple randomized controlled trials (https://impactcarehq.com/published-research/) IMPaCT has achieved outcomes frequently believed to be out of reach, including $2,500 annual savings per patient, improved mental health and a Net Promoter Score of 94. Weâre making waves: on CNN (https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/10/opinions/community-health-workers-opinion-kangovi-gee-blumenthal/index.html), in WaPo (https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/07/03/community-health-workers-are-essential-this-crisis-we-need-more-them/), at the Fed (https://www.newyorkfed.org/newsevents/events/regional_outreach/2023/0623-2023)âŚthere is even a new Medicare billing code (https://www.cms.gov/medicare/payment/fee-schedules/physician) for Community Health Workers that is modeled after IMPaCT.
