Job description
This role is ideal for an engineer who has hands-on experience with cellular modem integration, embedded Linux development, and low-level firmware rather than RF planning or carrier network engineering. You will work on firmware responsible for maintaining reliable, secure, 24/7 communication between embedded devices and cellular networks., * Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for Linux-based communication devices.
- Develop software primarily in C within embedded Linux environments.
- Work in both Linux kernel space and user space.
- Develop and maintain firmware using Buildroot Linux or similar embedded Linux distributions.
- Integrate, configure, and validate cellular modem functionality.
- Support board bring-up activities and hardware integration.
- Troubleshoot cellular connectivity issues including dropped connections and network reliability.
- Support testing related to cellular carrier certification.
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware, systems, and QA engineers throughout the product lifecycle.
- Participate in code reviews, debugging, and performance optimization.
- Contribute to secure communication and IoT connectivity initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of embedded firmware development experience.
- Strong proficiency in C programming.
- Extensive experience with Embedded Linux.
- Experience working in both Linux kernel space and user space.
- Experience with Buildroot Linux or similar embedded Linux distributions.
- Strong understanding of Linux networking fundamentals.
- Experience developing firmware for embedded communication devices.
- Experience integrating and troubleshooting cellular modems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Telit or similar cellular modem platforms.
- Experience with board bring-up.
- Knowledge of wireless networking technologies.
- Familiarity with cellular certification and carrier testing.
- Understanding of IoT security concepts.
- Basic Java knowledge.
- Experience supporting products through manufacturing and production.

Candidates whose experience is primarily focused on carrier network planning, RF optimization, or telecommunications infrastructure without embedded firmware development are unlikely to be a fit.
