Job description
The Senior Systems Administrator maintains the physical and virtualized server environment, VDI, SCCM/ Intune, security, patching, MS 365 environment, Active Directory, and cloud services for Santa Fe Community College. Must be committed to serving a diverse college community. Actively participates in and contributes to continuous quality improvement. The TERM Senior Systems Administrator does not supervise others., * Manages and supports on-premises Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft 365 Exchange environments.
- Administers Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Microsoft Defender environments.
- Maintains and supports on-premises Active Directory, including Group Policy administration.
- Manages identity and access management systems and processes.
- Deploys, configures, and maintains virtual and physical server infrastructure.
- Maintains system, network, and infrastructure documentation.
- Evaluates, tests, and approves server and application patches for deployment.
- Administers backup and recovery solutions, including the restoration of systems, data, files, and user accounts.
- Maintains and supports disaster recovery systems and infrastructure.
- Installs, configures, and maintains Windows, Linux, and hypervisor-based servers.
- Maintains system, network, and cybersecurity controls to ensure a secure computing environment.
- Deploys, implements, and supports enterprise software solutions.
- Participates in an on-call rotation and responds to after-hours incidents and system emergencies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science or related field
- Seven (7) years of job-related experience to include Experience supporting enterprise Microsoft Windows, Active Directory, Azure, and Microsoft 365 environments.
- Equivalent experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates who meet the Minimum Qualifications and possess the following additional qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Microsoft, VMware, ISC2, CompTIA, or other relevant industry certifications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Intune administration and management.
- Experience administering and supporting Linux operating systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of Windows Server, and virtualization platforms.
- Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, SCCM, and Microsoft Intune.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration and cloud technologies.
- Knowledge of backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices.
- Skill in installing, configuring, maintaining, and upgrading enterprise server systems.
- Skill in troubleshooting and resolving complex hardware, software, and systems issues.
- Skill in systems monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
- Skill in implementing and managing security controls and system hardening.
- Ability to install, maintain, configure, and repair complex systems and infrastructure.
- Ability to diagnose, analyze, and resolve critical system issues.
- Ability to learn and adopt new technologies quickly.
- Ability to evaluate technology solutions and make technical recommendations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor junior IT staff.
Physical Demands
- Lifting and carrying computer hardware, servers, networking equipment, and other technology components, typically up to 25-50 pounds.
- Working in data centers, server rooms, office environments, and equipment closets.
- Climbing ladders or accessing raised floors and ceiling spaces for cable installation and maintenance.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. The position requires regular travel between campus locations and occasional travel to remote sites, vendor facilities, training events, or conferences. The employee must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle and transport technology equipment and supplies as needed in support of college operations
Benefits & conditions
- This role will be required to work onsite in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
- Typically, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
- May be required to work after hours and/or weekends.
- Ability to respond to critical system incidents, including after-hours and on-call support.
