Job description

The Enterprise Programmer Analyst, under close supervision, is responsible for developing and maintaining new and existing software systems to support the achievement of university business requirements.

Core Responsibilities

  • Consults with systems programmers, supervisors, and end users to develop business requirements and write systems specifications to meet business needs.  Defines needs and provides an appropriate solution to ensure customer satisfaction, with smooth integration into existing systems.
  • Scopes document, appropriate to the project, is completed prior to programming.
  • Writes program specifications.
  • Converts designs and specifications into a functional application.
  • Prepares and executes integrated test plans using efficient testing methods.  Involves users in testing; consults with users to prototype, refine, test, and debug programs to meet needs; installs and tests programs at clients’ sites; monitors program performance after implementation.
  • Writes and maintains documentation of changes to computer programs and specifications; modifies and maintains software programs written by others; is familiar with OOP solutions; develops and maintains plans outlining steps and timetables for developing programs.
  • Designs and codes layouts for user interfaces, reports, and interfaces with other systems.
  • Reviews user and technical documentation written by others to confirm consistency with the program’s operations.
  • Provides technical assistance by responding to inquiries regarding errors, problems, or questions about programs. 
  • Research new technology and apply it to the project with no or minimal production issues.
  • Researches and evaluates software and hardware to assist in programming or to use as program platforms.
  • Provides On-Call Support.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • One (1) year of related work experience.
  • This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to recognize when to escalate a procedural issue.
  • Knowledgeable in developing documentation, providing customer support, and training users.
  • Ability to proactively learn, adapt to, and use new hardware/software technologies.
  • Ability to organize, manage time effectively, deliver tasks on time, manage rapidly changing priorities, and manage multiple efforts.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment.
  • Well-developed customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships.
  • Ability to stay abreast of new and emerging technology solutions by participating in technical training and technology briefings/ webinars, including self-paced and other staff development activities.
  • Ability to collaborate in a broad team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office.

Working Conditions

  • Office and Data Processing Environment.  Computers, servers, hardware, and standard office equipment.  Occasional exposure to extreme cold and risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Occasional evening and weekend work.  Occasional travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or multiple university-owned campuses and leased spaces.  Required to be on stand-by call status, carrying pager, cell phone, or two-way radio as assigned, and respond to after-hours emergency calls.  Required to be on stand-by call status for overtime, evenings, after hours, odd hours, shift work, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.  Flexibility in scheduling may be required.

Physical Demands

  • Walking and standing are required only occasionally.  Ability to push, pull, or lift up to 10 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.  Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.  Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.  Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.

This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.

Benefits & conditions

Salary Range: Up to $63,000/Annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.
