Job description

Enterprise Strategy & Architecture (ES&A) is a centralized architecture organization within the Information Technology department. ES&A supports the company’s safety, reliability, affordability, and regulatory objectives by providing clear architectural direction, disciplined governance, and practical guidance that accelerates delivery while reducing risk and complexity.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Technology Architecture, this role serves as the Enterprise Architect responsible for Compute & Storage architecture across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. The role defines the strategy, target architecture, standards, and roadmaps for enterprise compute platforms, storage services, backup and recovery capabilities, workload placement, and data resiliency solutions.

The successful candidate is a systems-level thinker and master planner who translates enterprise strategy into living target architectures, prioritized roadmaps, and reusable patterns, working early and continuously with delivery and operations teams to ensure solutions are aligned, secure, and executable. Architects in this role are expected to focus on enabling outcomes and delivery., Architecture Vision & Direction

  • Define and evolve the enterprise Compute & Storage target architecture, including hybrid and multi-cloud infrastructure strategies.

  • Develop capability-based roadmaps that advance infrastructure modernization, resiliency, and operational efficiency.

  • Establish architectural principles, standards, and reference architectures for enterprise compute, storage, backup, replication, and disaster recovery platforms.

  • Drive strategic decisions for workload placement by balancing cost, performance, resilience, operational complexity, and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure infrastructure architecture aligns with enterprise technology strategy, cloud adoption plans, and modernization initiatives.

Compute & Storage Scope

  • Define and govern the enterprise compute and storage across on-premises, hybrid, AWS, and Azure environments, including workload placement, infrastructure standards, and reusable compute/storage building blocks.

  • Architect compute platforms and hosting foundations, including VM platforms, clustering, cloud IaaS integration, container hosting dependencies, infrastructure templates, and platform interoperability across environments.

  • Architect enterprise storage ecosystems across block, file, object, archival, backup, and cloud-native storage services, including storage tiering, data placement, efficiency, lifecycle management, and backup class standards.

  • Define resilient data protection and mobility patterns across hybrid and multi-cloud environments, including replication, backup and restore, disaster recovery, RPO/RTO guidance, ransomware resilience, immutability, recoverability, and business continuity requirements.

  • Lead performance, capacity, observability, interoperability, and cost optimization across compute and storage platforms, including CPU, memory, storage IOPS, latency, infrastructure health, data egress, portability, and cloud-versus-on-prem economics.

Delivery Enablement & Governance

  • Engage early in planning and solution shaping activities to ensure infrastructure decisions align with enterprise standards and target architectures.

  • Provide reusable architecture patterns, standards, and decision frameworks for compute, storage, backup, and resiliency solutions.

  • Support architecture reviews and technology assessments to validate design direction, identify risks, and manage technical debt.

  • Guide teams through technology selections, modernization programs, and infrastructure transformation initiatives.

  • Ensure architecture standards are current, practical, and consistently applied across projects and operational teams

Portfolio, Planning & Optimization

  • Support IT strategic planning, modernization, and platform consolidation efforts

  • Coordinate roadmaps across infrastructure, security, application, data, and operations teams to manage interdependencies and conflicts

  • Lead or support vendor evaluations, platform selections, and RFP activities

  • Contribute to technology rationalization by reducing redundancy and improving platform consistency

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner closely with business and IT leaders to align architecture with operational realities and strategic priorities

  • Collaborate across architecture disciplines to ensure enterprise-wide consistency and integration

  • Coach and mentor engineers and architects, promoting strong architectural discipline and shared accountability

  • Use metrics and feedback loops to monitor progress, measure adherence to target architecture, and continuously improve architecture practices

Requirements

Minimum:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience

  • 10+ years of experience in infrastructure, cloud, platform, enterprise, or solution architecture

Desired:

  • Master’s degree in a related field

  • Deep experience designing and governing enterprise compute, storage, backup, disaster recovery, and resiliency architectures

  • Strong understanding of hybrid cloud, virtualization, infrastructure operations, and enterprise-scale data protection technologies

  • Experience balancing business, technical, operational, and regulatory requirements within large enterprise environments

  • Experience writing code and supporting modern software delivery practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, code quality, and performance engineering

  • Experience architecting large-scale hybrid and multi-cloud infrastructure environments

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms including AWS and Azure

  • Experience operating in regulated, high-reliability, or security-sensitive environments

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders
  • Architecture certification such as TOGAF or equivalent practical experience
