Job description
Seeking a talented Software Engineer (Level 1) to design, develop, test, and enhance complex, high-performance software systems in Fort Meade, MD. In this role, you will contribute across all phases of the software development lifecycle-building processing-intensive analytics, implementing novel algorithms, handling large-scale datasets, and modernizing real-time and business information systems. You will work within collaborative engineering teams to analyze user requirements, evaluate hardware/software trade-offs, correct defects, integrate COTS/GOTS capabilities, and ensure that all deliverables meet rigorous performance and security standards., Analyze user needs and operational requirements to derive comprehensive software design and performance specifications. Design, code, and test new software features and modify existing applications to adapt to new hardware or operating environments. Develop, optimize, and implement algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional criteria. Create and execute test procedures for software components, resolve defect reports, and document test outcomes. Design and implement complex database interfaces, queries, and data extraction routines for varied repositories. Use scientific analysis and mathematical modeling to predict and measure design outcomes and system behavior. Collaborate with systems engineers, end users, and technical leads to evaluate data usage, workflow efficiency, and software reuse opportunities. Author and review detailed technical documentation and recommend continuous improvements to development process standards.
Requirements
Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI with a current Polygraph. Core Software Engineering: Demonstrated experience in full-lifecycle software development, algorithm implementation, and application debugging. Integration & Systems Flow: Experience integrating software solutions into new or modified platforms, operating environments, and database architectures. Testing & Documentation: Proven ability to author test procedures, document test results, and draft clear software design specifications., Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline plus at least 7 years of software engineering experience on programs of similar scope and complexity, OR 11 years of relevant software engineering experience without a degree (4 additional years substituting for the degree). Hands-on experience developing processing-intensive data analytics and manipulating extremely large datasets. Prior experience leading small technical tasks or sprint teams within structured development methodologies.
