Job description

Mutual of Omaha is seeking Platform Engineers who are passionate about modernizing enterprise infrastructure, solving complex technical challenges, and helping shape the future of the platforms that power our business.

This role is part of an evolving platform engineering model that brings together compute, operating systems, virtualization, storage, resiliency, automation, and modern platform technologies.

The organization is actively modernizing enterprise infrastructure through initiatives spanning platform engineering, automation, storage modernization, resiliency, and OpenShift Virtualization. Engineers in this role will help design, build, and support the infrastructure services and platform capabilities required to meet current and future business needs.

This position offers the opportunity to help shape the future direction of enterprise infrastructure through modernization, automation, and platform engineering initiatives.

We welcome engineers who bring meaningful depth in one or more infrastructure disciplines and the ability to learn, adapt, and grow across a diverse set of technologies. Candidates are not expected to have expertise in every technology within the portfolio., * Help design, engineer, and modernize enterprise infrastructure platforms and services supporting critical business applications.

  • Contribute to infrastructure modernization initiatives, including OpenShift Virtualization adoption, platform transformation, migration efforts, and technology strategy.
  • Partner with application, architecture, security, and platform teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure infrastructure services.
  • Build reusable automation and self-service capabilities using technologies such as Ansible, PowerShell, Python, APIs, Infrastructure as Code, and Git-based engineering practices.
  • Support and enhance enterprise compute, operating systems, virtualization, storage, backup, recovery, resiliency, and related infrastructure services.
  • Explore and responsibly adopt emerging technologies, including AI-assisted engineering tools, to improve automation, operational efficiency, troubleshooting, and service delivery while collaborating across technical disciplines., * Enterprise storage and data services supporting business-critical workloads, including platforms such as NetApp, Hitachi VSP, IBM DS8000, and other enterprise storage technologies.
  • Storage availability, replication, performance, capacity management, data protection, and storage networking technologies including Fibre Channel SAN and related connectivity services.
  • Storage integration with Linux, Windows, VMware, OpenShift, resiliency, and modern platform services.

Resiliency, Automation & Operations

  • Cohesity or comparable backup and recovery platforms
  • Disaster recovery, business continuity, and cyber-resiliency
  • Infrastructure automation and Infrastructure as Code
  • Monitoring, observability, and operational analytics
  • Able to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection and located in the United States or Puerto Rico., * A storage engineer expanding into Linux, OpenShift Virtualization, automation, and platform engineering.
  • A Linux, Windows, or virtualization engineer expanding into storage, resiliency, data services, and platform engineering.
  • An infrastructure engineer developing expertise in automation, Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, and modern platform engineering practices.

The goal is not for every engineer to know every technology. The goal is to build a team with strong individual areas of expertise, increasing overlap across disciplines, and the adaptability to support the technologies the enterprise will need in the future.

This role is classified as remote; however, periodic in-person attendance will be required at times for activities such as quarterly or project planning, training, or other business-critical meetings.

Requirements

Candidates are not expected to have experience in every area below. We are interested in engineers with strong depth in one or more domains and the ability to learn and contribute across others.

Platform Modernization

  • Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization
  • Kubernetes and container platform concepts
  • GitOps, automated testing, and CI/CD practices

Linux, Windows & Compute

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux or other enterprise Linux distributions
  • Windows Server, Active Directory, PKI, and related infrastructure services
  • VMware vSphere
  • Cisco UCS or comparable enterprise compute platforms
  • Operating system and virtualization lifecycle management, * Strong technical depth combined with curiosity and continuous learning
  • Systems thinking and understanding of dependencies across infrastructure layers
  • Automation and engineering solutions over manual processes
  • Collaboration and knowledge sharing over technology silos
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Responsible adoption of emerging technologies, including AI-assisted engineering

3.7 Remote Remote $130,000 - $140,000 a year - Full-time, * Estimated Salary (Levels have variable responsibilities and qualifications) + o Engineer II: $130,000-$140,000 plus annual bonus opportunity
